I know that a lot of the slotcar fanatics have been hearing rumblings
about the Scalextric / QuattroX products under the Takara banner that
are sold in Japan. We have been wondering what the cars would be like,
would they be up to par with the other Scalextric releases? Would they
perform? Would they be cheap imports? Well, lets go find out!
Let me just start by saying WOW! This car is cool all the way around.
Not to mention that is comes with the CarShow girl in the box.
The body styling, the paint, the color of the wheels, the design of
the rear wing, the interior, colors, wheel and tires...this car has
it all. It makes me seriously hope to get my hands on one of the Takara
350Z's!
As you can see, the box is clearly not written in english other than
the clear sticker on the case, the logos on the front and the 1:32 scale
denotation on the front of the box. The cool thing here is that you
don't have read japanese to enjoy a new slot car, fresh from the freight
carrier, just out of the box!
The car as you can see is difference in appearance from the other
NSX variants that we all have our hands on from the other slotcar manufacturers.
This car looks different you say? Well yes it does.
The first thing that jumps out at you is the bright green color on
the wheels, followed by the beautiful metallic green paint on the body.
Yes, even the body design is slightly different. The rear wing
sits lower, the sides of the rear quarter panels are taller, the wheels
seem to be a larger. Check out the photo below.

The tampo printing all over the car is clear as a bell, even down to
the printing on the spokes of the wheels. In the shot above, you
can see the metallic sparkle in the paint. The other thing to
note in this shot is the brake calipers and rotors. Yes, that
is printing you see on the brake caliper! Here's the kicker.
In most of the slotcars that are produced today, the rotors only or
the calipers and rotors are simply parts of molded plastic that are
either attached to or molded as part of the wheels. NOT the case
here. Hope you are sitting down for this one!
The caliper and rotor assembly is exactly that, an assembly. Its
a molded piece of plastic that sits in the chassis and suspends the
caliper and rotor in the middle of the wheels. The result, a wheel
that spins, while the caliper remains stationary...just like a real
car. A very nice, but subtle touch of detail.
Let's go onto the next part, the side by side comparison with a NINCO
NSX Takata.
