Chevrolet CorvetteThe blue and yellow Chevrolet Corvette that competed in the Spa 24 Hours
SCX reproduces the Chevrolet Corvette, the flagship of the Corvette Racing fleet, a car characterised by its sporty, aggressive and aerodynamic lines.
Regarding the decoration on this SCX® model, the American manufacturer Chevrolet has given the car a strikingly sober look, mainly through the use of just two colours: blue, which is the dominant colour on the whole car, and yellow, which makes the car more eye-catching.
Seen from the front the Chevrolet Corvette has a wealth of air intakes, which are particularly wide on the bonnet. The car is covered with logos all over its bodywork. This view is finished off with a pair of highly attractive headlights and a front spoiler which adds to the sporty, competitive look of the nose and helps to enhance the car's aerodynamics. The side is divided into two colours – blue and yellow – along the whole of its length. The side doors feature the race number 34, and the grey spoked wheels with Michelin tyres are particularly eye-catching, once again adding to the car's sporty personality.
There is a small window in the driver's door of the Chevrolet Corvette with openings at the front and back, and over the doors are the names of the drivers and co-drivers: Menten, Belloc, Bornhauser and Bouvy. As usual, SCX has gone to great pains with the detailing of the driver and co-driver's gear (helmet, gloves and overalls). In the back view of the car the black spoiler stands out, with the name of the sponsor Dunlop in yellow. This, along with a ground-hugging bodywork, make it a highly sporty, competitive car. Track Trials A model with highly acceptable vital statistics in 1/32, fairly light and with a low centre of gravity, built on a completely flat chassis with proportions which are well-suited to competition. All in all, it promises a high-performance response with the classic, tried and tested SCX® mechanical design. The tilting motor cradle breaks up the rigidity of a frame with a surprising degree of flexibility.
A little bit of running-in to tune up the gears and bearings, fit the pick-up braids untwisted and of equal lengths and lubricate all the moving parts and you are ready to hit the track, at low torque rates at first before building up steadily to a racing pace. First impressions are confirmed as soon as you get it onto the track. The Chevrolet Corvette gets ahead with precision thanks to its length, a rear end with practically no overhang and a wheel track which gives adequate support on wide bends. It takes parabolic bends on a racing circuit very comfortably and negotiates tight bends without too much trouble. It is focused in its performance on straights, and the ease with which it brakes hard rounds off a performance which should provide some great afternoons. The model's main trump cards are its stable, comfortable running, making it a car to drive and tune up to become one of the stars of the different SCX® paddocks. * Tests conducted without extra magnet. The Corvette Racing Team was 50 years old in 2004 and constantly proves that it is still at the top in international endurance races by winning the GT1 category in the last five editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Chevrolet Corvette is the most technologically advanced sports car ever created by the American manufacturer, and was the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2005. This time SCX® has reproduced the exact same model which competed in the Spa 24 Hours, driven by the team made up of the Frenchmen Belloc and Bornhauser, the Dutchman Menten and the Belgian Bouvy. The Corvette is equipped with a V8 engine delivering 600 horsepower. Based on the Corvette C6-Z06, this vehicle features carbon and Kevlar bodywork; these lightweight materials cut its weight down to just 1,162kg. The Spa 24 Hours is an endurance race held every year at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. It was conceived by Jules de Their and Henri Langlois Van Ophem just after the first 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the race is run under the auspices of the Royal Automobile Club Belgium. Ferrari 550 Maranello This Ferrari 550 GT Maranello from the firm with the prancing horse logo, brought to you by SCX, boasts a truly spectacular design, in line with the Italian manufacturer's philosophy. The front of the vehicle has a strikingly large air intake with several logos underneath it. The car uses three colours: blue, the main colour in the scheme, white, which is used for the top part of the spoilers running around the vehicle and finally another band of grey underneath which, like the white, runs all around the vehicle. This colour scheme brings out even more the originality of this Ferrari Eye-catching in the side view of this SCX model are the wide, low-profile Michelin tyres. The silver-coloured alloy wheels are a detail to spot and behind the wheels are some striking air intakes. The aggressive looks of the car are at least partly due to its low suspension, a typical feature of Ferrari models.
Other distinctive features of this Ferrari 550 GT Maranello include the stickers on the bodywork, starting with the large driver's race number, 72, next to the logo of ‘Les Maisons France’ and the French flag on the car doors. The drivers' names are to be found over the doors: Frederic Dor, Luc Alphand and Jerome Policand. Also worth a mention are the attractive headlights, between which the inevitable Ferrari logo stands out. Features to spot inside the vehicle include reinforcing bars and the driver's clothing. At the back, the strikingly enormous rear spoiler carries the name of the sponsor Care Racing Development. Overall, the Ferrari 550 GT Maranello is a car with a long, very wide body and multiple air intakes, one with which SCX® has managed to pass on all the sensations of sportiness and passion that Ferrari builds into its vehicles. Track Trials The predatory look of the rear spoiler is the first thing to catch the eye as the Ferrari 550 GT Maranello moves, completely flat, along the track. Its classic sports car shape gives this SCX® model spectacular lines. It loses almost no stability either going into or coming out of curves, so all inertia forces end up in a long, smooth skid which can be exploited by working the trigger to achieve attractive moves with the rear end. A relatively moderate wheel base, short in comparison with other cars in its class, together with the generous guide distance, create a front triangle which enables it to take bends comfortably. The rear wheel track will make it easy to negotiate tight bends, making it a pleasant car to drive. The negative side of this SCX model is its high weight, which slows down acceleration and prolongs braking distance; while this is not a cause for major concern, it needs to be borne in mind when racing the car. The Ferrari 550 GT Maranello is a very similar car to others in its class, which allows puts a wider range of models on the starting grid without involving too many differences in performance. * Tests conducted without supplementary magnet Sport Table of Measurements

It has a 2-door coupé bodywork. It has rear wheel drive and a front-mounted 5.5-litre V12 engine delivering up to 485 horsepower. It was the first vehicle in the world to have traction control and ASR (anti-slide) systems fitted as standard. Inside it has 2+2 seats (rather than a true 4-seater) – 2 normal front seats and 2 small back ones. It has a lateral aerodynamic coefficient of 0.33 and an almost unbeatable frontal coefficient. It delivers 485 horsepower. In 1943 the Ferrari factory moved to Maranello, where it has remained ever since. It was bombed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1946 to produce road vehicles. The firm's founder, Enzo Ferrari, never thought of making road cars when he set up the Scuderia in 1929 to sponsor the amateur drivers of Modena, but the Italian firm has never stopped creating some of the most attractive cars in history, both for competition and for private owners. The French driver Luc Alphand is behind the wheel of this Ferrari 550 Maranello, brought to you by SCX®. Born on 6th August 1965 in Briançon (France) and was an alpine skier before becoming a rally driver. He started out in the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 1984, finally winning it in 1997. After that he retired from skiing and began his career as a racing driver, competing in different events including the FIA GT Championship, the Nissan Micra Stars Cup and the European Le Mans Series. The 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 Heures du Mans) in which Luc Alphand's Ferrari 550 Maranello - as brought to you now by SCX® - competed in 2007 is an unusual endurance race, not part of any world championship in this category. It is run once a year, in June, at the circuit of La Sarthe, near Le Mans, France. Organised by the Automobile Club de L'Ouest (A.C.O), it is the most famous endurance competition in the world. |
