| What are the best dressed slot cars wearing this Summer? Why, BWA Wheels, of course! The cottage industry for slot cars is growing, and BWA wheels has become quite the household name for quality aftermarket wheels. The creation of a Canadian named Al Penrose, BWA Wheels is a line of spun aluminum wheels for both 1:32 and 1:24 scale slot cars. | | It's no secret that round wheels make cars faster. Stock rims molded from plastic are known for being either out of round, or having molding flash that impede performance. Another problem inherent with plastic wheels is that they are prone to breakage, either though use, or often right out of the box. Getting stock replacements for broken rims is often difficult, sometimes impossible, and if you are able to replace the stock rims, the replacements are just as prone to flaws as the original. | | | BWA Wheels are as close to perfect as you can get. Available in any number of sizes and secured by a set screw, these wheels are a smart and economical performance upgrade from stock rims. When combined with any number of available | | inserts, your finished model will not only run better and go faster, but look great as well. | | I have personally tested BWA wheels on several cars, including the Camaro and Porsche 908 you see here. One personal observation I have made is that with the BWA wheels the need to true the tires is greatly reduced. Because you can pick and choose the size you want or need, it is possible to get a much closer to scale appearance, such as the Camaro I did above. | | | All BWA Wheels are designed for use on 3/32 axles. I found that when using stock axles a bit of sanding was necessary to get the rims to fit the axles. This can be accomplished by putting the axle into a drill bit and spinning the axle while holding a bit of sandpaper around the end of the axle. Priced at about $6.50(U.S.) a pair, BWA Wheels are a great way to improve the performance and scale appearance of your favorite cars. | I'd like to thank Al Penrose at BWA Slot Car Products for sending me these samples. I highly recommend that you get one or more sets to test yourself! | Discuss Slot Cars |
