| Adam Rust approached me via eMail from Australia about testing his wheels, and it was obvious he was excited about them. I said I would be glad to check out his wheels, and he sent them on their way to me. After being held up in Customs for an extra week or so, they finally arrived. I must say that the wheels were worth the wait. Adam had sent me five sets, plus one extra wheel per set. He certainly wanted me to put these rims to the test, and I had several cars in mind that need replacement wheels in a bad way. | Adam's wheels are the same diameter as a FLY Classis rear wheel, and just slightly smaller in width. I found that the FLY rear wheels fit with no problems, and as you can see by the picture there is no trimming required. The wheels are very round and nice looking. Now, the wheels sent me, though different colors, were all the same rim. Adam is hoping for enough interest to warrant the amount of work it takes to tool a new style. The style he sent me | | | were close enough to those wheels on my wife's Porsche 908 Flunder, which has been plagued by a broken rear wheel that Krazy Glue could no longer fix. As you can see, the style is close, and at speed no one can tell the difference anyway! I found the wheels to be very smooth on the track, even without trimming. | | One car in my collection that needed a wheel swap badly was my Spirit Lola, as both rear wheels have spun themselves off the axle more than once. I found Adam's gold rims, though not the same wire style, to be exactly what I needed. I found out, interestingly enough, that the brake disks on the Spirit Lola transferred over to Adam's rims perfectly. This makes the new rims even more versatile as aftermarket replacements. | | | | | They press fit onto the axles snugly, and though the rear tires on the Spirit seemed overly large, they fit the rims perfectly. I feel I should mention that the plastic that these rims are molded of seem to be just a bit softer than most stock plastics. Though the rims fit snug I didn't get the impression that one wrong move would require another rim. | | As you can see, though not exact replacements, they dress up the Lola nicely, and work very well. I haven't done any timed comparisons yet, but these wheels are the roundest plastic replacement wheels I've ever seen, and if more styles become available these could become a household name. Whatever than name may end up being. | | | | | Hat's off to Adam Rust for some great wheels. I certainly hope he gets some interest from Dealers, and that he comes up with more designs. These are great wheels. I would suspect that they would be reasonably priced, though pricing information is not yet available. I would suggest bugging Adam, and tell that you're interested. I don't think you could possibly be disappointed. |
