Ninco Audi TT Upgrade

With Ninco's release of this car, the first thing that strikes your eye is its looks. Although not as detailed as Scalextric or Fly, is a very nice model, built for running and racing. Another thing is the NC-2 motor, which are more than enough horses for this little DTM addition.
With that said, as you may know, Ninco cars are not as stuck down as other cars might be, and not that this trait is bad, you might want to add just a bit of down-force in the rear for added speed in the corners. On Carrera track, this is more evident, as the rails are less magnetic than on Scalextric or Ninco, so I chose to help this model just a bit.
I am no real fan of heavily stuck down cars using magnets, but in this case, you get the added traction of magnets, without the "dragging" effect. Whereas, you still HAVE to drive this car, but get some cushion in the event you actually are too heavy on the trigger (like that ever happens).

When looking at the chassis, lets face it; there are not a lot of options here. The chassis does not give you a lot to work with. Well after looking at it for awhile, I noticed that if one were to add a bar magnet behind the crown gear, where the chassis starts to curve upwards, you could get added down-force without the dragging effect.
One obstacle stood in the way; the rear body mount post but with a Dremel or grinder you can get around this, literally! Simply grind or cut a notch as shown in the photo, to allow the placement of the magnet. Then, simply place the magnet in position and add a couple drops of CA (Crazy Glue) and you are done.
Now some will say heat like this will ruin a magnet, and it just might. Nevertheless, for the small notch I cut, it did not hurt the magnetic properties. In addition, another option is 2 smaller magnets, such as a pair of Tweaker magnets, on each side of the post. Silicone tires would help as well here, but I like the sliding action in these models, so the standard rubber stayed.

You will be surprised at the increased speed of this car, without a heavy dragging effect. Moreover, the Ninco NC-2 motor can more than handle the added weight and down force. This motor has plenty of torque, and after 50 laps of testing, no overheating was noticed.

Give it a try, you might find a nice little runner that is quicker and competitive.
