  • Bertrand 8 starting with a Race Party set

I was asked to post the layout I came up with that used the Carrera Race Party track as a base. With just a few extra pieces, I Was able to make this version of the Bertrand 8 figure 8 layout.

It uses all the pieces from the Race Party set, plus the following:
    2x R4/15
    2x R3/30
    3x R2/30
    1x 1/4 straight
I also showed borders everywhere I would want them.

As such, this might not be the best layout for those who need to purchase whole packs of track, but if you can find someone with a box of spare, or a shop selling tracks by the piece, then you can get exactly what you need. At this point, this is more or less my goal for my Carrera layout. I'll probably also design a version with a pit lane, which will stretch it out a bit. When I do, I'll post that here.

I'll also post up some of the variations I came up with that use ONLY the Race Party track pieces, and I encourage people to do the same.

This uses 10 4/15s (box of 12), a pair of 1/2 straights, and a pair of 1/3 straights. Green area is 16x4.

That's a nice one. How many R1 go unused?
Can you make the ends different? The look almost the same from one side to the other.

10 R1s. It uses all of the set parts exc one std straight and the gold trophy.

The ends are slightly different, but given my self imposed part list and area, there aren't a lot of design options to turn around at the ends of the long diagonal straight and stay on the table.

What if you trade an R1/30 for the remainin 2 R4/15s? Would that allow a small straight on one end?

This uses full boxes of R2 and R3, with more variety at the ends. Area is 16x4.

                This uses 10 R4s, and 9 1/60s, plus a 1/30.

You could try making your own 1/30 with the leftover 1/60.

If you can get an R2/30 instead of the 1/30, you don't need the single 1/4 straight.

I really quite like the look of these layouts.

This guy has done something similar. His track has given me a lot of inspiration.

This last track design gets my vote, nice use of space, a 4 foot wide space is not really enough space for Carrera track in my opinion.

My track is currently in "temporary mode" on the floor of the main part of my basement/family room/Bear cave (Chicago Bears). When I get to the point of building my table-top model in the secondary part of my basement, I will definitely be looking at this design.

IMO, it's only enough for an oval, with or without squished sides, or for a figure 8.

A full circle of R2 without borders will fit in 48".

My usual Carrera layout is a three lane figure 8 that uses the outside lane of R2s as borders.

As a Carrera fan, I have two wishes:
                            • Add at least a single lane section that fits inside R1.
                            • Package R4 curves and borders in boxes of 6 pieces instead of 12.

I share your wishes. I like how Scalextric sells track in pairs. While it might be more economical to buy in bulk as Carrera forces people to do, it's a lot nicer to be able to buy pretty much exactly what you need without a lot of leftover. That said, what slot racer doesn't end up with a pile of spare, eventually? ;-) I just got a couple boxes from a friend that should enable me to make darn near anything I want in this thread, and then some. I'll still need some borders, but he just saved me a ton of money.
