  • 2017 Flyslot ETRC Trucks N. America Championships

Flyslot has authorized Great Traditions (aka GTSLOTS) to run a North America race program for their ETRC truck models. Regional races will be scheduled, culminating in a North America Final race to be held on November 4, 2017. The Finals will take place at Great Traditions, 831 Byberry Road, Philadelphia, PA. Track opens 8 am, tech inspection starts at 10 am, racing scheduled to start about 1 pm.

To qualify for the finals, you must finish in the top 4 of one of the 2017 Flyslot ETRC Truck regional races to be announced soon, or have a prior champion's exemption as a previous winner of a GTSLOTS championship final within the past 5 years.

Any shops, clubs or slot car organizations interested in holding a regional event contact Robert Holt by phone (908-397-7886) or e-mail ([email protected])

Below is a picture of the Great Traditions track used for the N. America Finals:

    ELIGIBLE TRUCKS:
Only the following Flyslot “ETRC Trucks” brand trucks as raced in the FIA European Truck Racing
Championship from 1994 – 2005 and 2006 - current are permitted – Buggyra, MAN, Mercedes Benz, and
SISU. No lightweight racing versions will be permitted. As new trucks are introduced they will be reviewed
and added to the approved list if eligible (see approved parts list for complete list). Kits, if made available,
must be complete with all the parts that come in the kit, excepting those changes allowed below. See pictures
    below for eligible truck examples:

    GENERAL:
Any modifications or parts not specifically addressed in the series rules or are not listed in the approved
trucks/parts list are not legal and will not be permitted. If the rules stated on this page do not indicate a part or
tuning method IS allowed, it is NOT allowed. Any modifications that are made and/or tuning techniques used
are made at the racer’s own risk. Any variations to these rules must be approved in advance by GTSLOTS. All
    rules are subject to change.

    THE BODY:
Bodies may not be modified, lightened, or cut in any way – including wheel wells, body posts, interiors, etc.

EXCEPTIONS: Sharp edges, burrs, and mold flashing may be trimmed and/or sanded to permit clearance for
the proper seating of the body onto the chassis and to allow for body float. No more than .010” of material
should be removed where applicable. If a standard credit card can be passed in the gap between the body and
chassis, the sanding has exceeded tolerance and the truck may fail inspection. All trucks must start each race
with all parts intact (I.E. interior details, radiator screens, hoses represented by wound wire springs and/or
plastic materials, air tanks, water tanks, engine details, fifth-wheel coupling, wings and/or spoiler(s), etc.) as
came on the original model excepting for mirrors, wipers, antennas, and small valve details. Bodies and
interiors may be custom painted, however all trucks must have proper numbers and markings as is prototypical
and resemble FIA ETRC race trucks. Bodies must be attached by any and all screws locations provided by the
factory, using any manufacturer’s screws, and shims are permitted to adjust chassis/body/tire tweak and
clearance. If body screws are run loose, tape should be placed over the screw holes on the bottom of the chassis
where possible. All trucks must use the complete and unmodified interior. All windows must remain
transparent as is prototypical with window netting in place if supplied.

    CHASSIS:
Only the Flyslot inline truck type chassis of the correct model type is permitted and may not be modified in any
manner. NO TRACTION MAGNETS. Sanding of the edges and interference points of the chassis for float is
legal. No more than .010” of material where applicable should be removed where applicable. If a standard
credit card can be passed in the gap between the body and chassis, the sanding has exceeded tolerance and the
truck may fail inspection. Mold flashing and the plastic injection/molding ejection/overflow expansion points
may be removed (Note: this does not include wire pathway posts). NO modifications to axle mounts and
openings front or rear are permitted. (Note: chassis may not be modified in any manner to fit gears.)

    AXLES\BUSHINGS\WHEELS\TIRES:
Only the Flyslot and/or Racer Sideways 3/32” truck wheels are permitted. Any manufacturer’s 3/32” axles, rear
bushings (no offset type or ball bearings), axle shims, and spacers are permitted. Bushings may be glued in
place. Stock front and rear wheel assemblies and/or Racer Sideways front (single/aluminum) and rear
(dual/aluminum or magnesium) truck wheels are permitted. Stock plastic wheels may be lightly sanded for the
purposes of truing. Wheels may be painted. CA (Super) glue may be used to repair loose or attach plastic
wheels. Flyslot stock or Racer Sideways (hard or medium) rubber truck tires may be used on the front. Front
tires may be both glued and trued, and may extend past the body at the front wheel wells by no more than
1.0mm (.040”) on each side. (Caution: removal of too much of the front tire material will lead to the possible
interference of the vehicle storage mounting post under the chassis with the track.) All rear tires to be supplied
by race host (Regional) or GTSLOTS (Regional and National) on race day unless otherwise noted.

    Approved rear tires are:
    “Quick Slicks” tire(s) #FL91XF (1.024”x.3.73”) or #FL92XF (1.043”x.373”). Tire combinations are permitted.
Rear tires may extend past body at the rear wheel wells by no more than 1.0mm (.040”) on each side. No
chemicals may be used on the tires. Tires are subject to change at the Nationals and due to availability some
tire sizes may not be available. Regional hosts can determine tires to be used for their regional race.

    GEARING:
    ONLY Slot.it 8/9/10 tooth 5.5 mm pinions and the 24/25/26/27 tooth (ratios – 8T - 3.00/3.13/3.25/3.38, 9T -
2.67/2.78/2.89/3.00, 10T - 2.40/2.50/2.60/2.70) inline crown (standard or offset) gears are permitted. Driver
may apply grease to the gears.

    GUIDE BLADES/BRAID/ELECTRICAL:
Only the Flyslot stock guide blade w/spring is permitted. The guide spring may be modified to adjust the spring
pressure, replaced with a different spring or spring material, and/or removed completely from the guide blade.
In addition, shims and/or stops may be added to limit the up and down and rotational movement of the guide
blade. Any manufacture’s braid and wire may be used and must be attached to the guide/braid through the use
of any manufacture’s eyelets. (Note: the lead wires may be soldered directly to the eyelets only and may not be
glued or soldered to the braid). Wires may be held in place and supported on the chassis using tape, heat shrink
    tubing, and/or silicone adhesive.

    ALLOWED MODIFICATIONS TO THE CHASSIS/BODY:
In order to foster competition and create parity between the different models of the Flyslot “ETRC Trucks”, the
following approved modifications are being permitted on a truck by truck basis (Note: all modifications should
be made in a clean and professional manner and not deter from the proper “look” of the truck). Any such
modifications are made at the racer’s own risk:

    General (all trucks):
    - Interference has been found between the inline crown gear and the relief pocket molded into
the chassis for some of the trucks. As such, it is permitted to chamfer the interfering edge of
the crown gear. See picture below for examples:

Besides the use of tape, the can end of the motor mount portion of the chassis may be drilled
and/or notched to permit the use of any manufacture’s motor mount screws to allow for the
supporting of the motor in place to the chassis. (Note: on the Buggyra chassis, it is permitted
to use hot glue or other easily removable glue to assist in retaining of the motor screws.) See
    pictures below for examples:

Buggyra: none required at this time

    MAN:
    - It is permitted to modify the chassis in the area of the gear relief pocket and rear chassis body
post to allow for the proper clearances for the use of the Slot.it 27 tooth inline crown gear.

    See picture below:

Mercedes Benz: none required at this time

SISU: none required at this time

    MOTOR:
    Regional Events:
Motors provided by the race host or racers themselves (SCC “Jaws” long can (FK-180) – rated 17.5k @12volts)
using the appropriate Slot.it 8/9/10 tooth 5.5mm pinion. It is suggested that the motors of the top 5 finishers be
tested at the conclusion of the event to confirm legality with the results (if tested) provided to GTSLOTS along
with the event race results. (NOTE: Contact GTSLOT technical contacts shown below for additional
information on the testing of motors.)

    N. America Finals:
Only the provided handout (SCC “Jaws” long can (FK-180) – rated 17.5k @12volts) motor is legal for the
National event and will be supplied by GTSLOTS. Motors will be pre-tested, pre-lubricated, and marked with
    an ID code; racers will provide their own pinion gears (8/9/10 tooth 5.5mm); trim the motor shafts as required;
and will be responsible for the proper soldering of the lead wires to the motor tabs without overheating the tabs
and causing damage to the motor. No chemicals (example: Voo Doo drops, etc.) shall be added to the motors.
For the sole purpose to hold the motor in place, motors may ONLY be attached in place in the motor pod by
either using any manufacture’s motor screws w/washers through the appropriate screw holes drilled in the
chassis motor mount and into the pre-threaded holes in the “can” end of the motor, and/or using tape. Holes
may be cut out of the tape to allow for cooling over the motor vent holes. Racers would receive their handout
motor at a predetermined time at the event, have the opportunity to test/practice with the handout motor before
the start of competition, the option to purchase a replacement motor prior to the start of competition, and keep
the motor(s) at the conclusion of the event.

    WEIGHT:
Weight may be added to the inside of the body and/or any surface of the chassis. Added weight may not be
utilized to alter the function or movement of the front or rear axles. NO weight may be attached to the
    underside of the chassis.

    LIGHTING:
    Not permitted.

    TRACK VOLTAGE:
Suggested 12 volts (Note: track power will be set at 12 volts for the N. America finals and the GTSLOTS
    regional races)

RACE PROCEDURES: (as to be used at the N. America finals and GTSLOTS regional events):
    - All participating race cars will be inspected to ensure rule compliance. A few test laps (the number to be
determined by the race organizer) will be allowed prior to the final inspection.
    - It is the responsibility of each participant to make sure that the front spoiler, chassis, and spur gear of their car
has sufficient clearance to the track and pickup rail surface so as not to rub under race conditions and will be
    inspected for such clearance.
    - Loose parts, wheel inserts, etc. may be attached and/or repaired using any type of available glue.
    - Cars will be impounded after the inspection process and drivers cannot touch their cars unless done under
“green flag” race conditions under the observation of a race official.
    - Any controller is permitted, provided that the controller does not store an electrical charge.
    - The race director for the event (the race organizer holding the event) will have the final determination if any
    questions or conflicts arise.
    - Drivers and/or their authorized representatives may repair broken or damaged cars (IE: damaged braids,
broken wires, loose gears and/or wheels, lose or missing screws, etc.) during “green flag” conditions, only
under the view of a race official assigned by the race director, repairs must be properly performed to meet all
posted rules, and parts may not be torn or broken off the car where screws are used to retain the parts (IE: the
front spoiler, etc.) to perform the repair.

    - For any clarification of the race procedures being used at the National Championship please contact:
Robert Holt by phone (908-397-7886) or e-mail ([email protected])

No, coating of the front tires is not permitted.
Unfortunately, the SISU Kauchk #47 is a Fly/GB Track release not a Flyslot release, so it's not eligible.

Yes, close racing, overall the trucks handled well, didn't seem to be any more crashing/deslots than running cars. Hope to see you at the Pinion Twisters regional Ray.
