    • Missing you guys

I've had 2 outpatient surgeries since I've been back home and finally the recovery is showing good results.
If things continue to improve I plan to come up towards the end of April.
I haven't touched a car or a controller since the surgeries and I'm really missing them.
I hope that all of you guys are doing well and I hope to see you all soon.

                • Formula 1 Racing started on Monday nights

As Steve mentioned in his race report, F1 racing has started on Monday nights, at Ace Hobby.
Polycar, & classic (older) Scalextric F1's, run together and are scored separately.

The first race was very much enjoyed by the drivers.

All that remains is how to work the F1's in to the Monday night race schedule.
Perhaps, on the typical Monday night, the F1's could rotate with the LMP's.
In any case, the F1's will be worked in to the rotation.

Bring them with you, in the beginning, the F1's could be run fairly frequently, depending on driver response & requests.

                  Tom

                    • No great speed but lots of fun

Be advised: I got mine as a "white kit" and it took a dog's age to assemble.

As can be seen from Steve's summary, they aren't all that quick... but they are a lot of fun and take some serious effort to get the most out of them.

                      And they crash well.

                      NOTE: The standard pinion is a 9T, the crown it engages is a 25T mated to a 16T transfer gear. The standard axle comes with a 17T spur attached. 9/25 = 2.778; 16/17 = 1.0625; overall ratio = 2.952:1

                      • Steve nailed it with the comments on the F1 race. We all had a ball with these cars. Everyone showed up with one and all enjoyed them.

There was talk about them running every Monday night. I would go for that idea. With 6 races we ran 4 races and still got out a about 8:30. We were missing Joe and Alex. the normal field is 8 racers. We could still run 4 races and still be out of Ron's hair by 9:00 or so. Just a thought..

And as Tom said we will work them into the rotation. I would like to see them rotate with the DP/Scaley GT class. For some reason the guys wanted to run the slower class cars first thing on Monday night. So swap the F1 and the DP/Scaley Gt's . Slow class with another slow class.

                        Chris

                        • Well... neither Al (of course) nor I would complain about dropping the Scaley GTs, and given the participation, I'm thinking no one else would either.

                          • Turning to another topic, if I may... Slot.it 21.5 or 23k motors. It seems that Pendle Slot Racing (England) has them in stock as well as TopSlots (also in England)... but I don't see any anywhere this side of the big pond. A conspiracy?

                            Any thoughts

                              • Motors allowed for Monday night racing at Ace Hobby.

The lack of consistency of the orange end bell motor has been the subject of much discussion over
the last year. This motor is the specified in some of the Monday night classes (Group C, DP, & GT2).

This, combined with what appears to be a lack of availability of Slot-It orange end bell motors in North America, has been a concern for the racers.

After discussion at a Monday night driver's meeting on 4/9/18; it was decided to allow the motors now allowed in the Can Am & Trans Am classes to be used in all Monday night classes previously requiring an orange end bell motor.

                                Effective immediately,
Motors allowed in Group C, GT2, DP, Scaley GT, Can Am, & Trans Am classes will be:
                                - "old" Slot-It orange end bell, 21.5 k RPM.
                                - "new" Slot-It orange end bell, (labeled as) 23 k RPM.
                                - Piranha black end bell 21.5 k RPM.
                                - NSR shark 20 k RPM (stock in NSR Can Am's).
                                - NSR shark 22 k RPM.
                                -Thunderslot 21.5 k RPM.

There may be some "relieving" of the pods needed, in order to get the Shark Motors to fit; and/or use of a flat axel in sidewinder set ups.

                                Happy building.

                                Tom
