      • Race results for Monday, 4/23

It was a nasty evening, weather wise, in WNY; but that didn't stop the racers
from coming out. We had a record number of no magnet drivers at Ace Hobby - 16 !
We were able to run fully marshalled races, with a few "sit outs" each heat. Thanks
Billy, for your help on the button.

Welcome to Max, first time no magnet racer!

In between repairing cars for people (thanks Ron!), there was time enough for some
talk of "kicking some a--", by the shop owner. No one seemed overly concerned; however,
every once in a while, he does pull it off.

        DP

16 cars were on the starting grid.
It was a fairly fast, close race, with 7 drivers with over 60.55 laps! The top 4 finishers
were all within 1.0 lap of one another. Ron finished 4th by .40 lap to 3rd place Al.
C-Bill came in second by .50 lap to the race winner, Chris. Congratulations Chris.
Max had some electrical problems, which slowed down his debut performance.
Troy, Gill, Scott, & Tony all had over 55 laps - nice job. Scott, Gill, & Troy all had
        sub-12 second lap times.

        1.Chris, 61.85 laps
        2.C-Bill, 61.30
        3.Al, 61.25
        4.Ron, 60.85
        5.Tom, 60.75
        6.Yellow Dog, 60.70
        7.Roger, 60.55
        8.Will, 59.50
        9.Troy, 57.17

        fast laps:
        yellow, Chris 11.342 seconds
        black, Chris 11.420
        white, C-Bill, 11.362
        red, Chris 11.510

Someone (possibly Scott ?) had an excellent idea, and the Can Am cars were "tech'ed" during
the DP race, to save some time.

        Can Am

It was a totally mixed group of 16 cars on the starting grid. Probably more Ford GT40's
than anything else. Alfa's, Ferrari 312's, a Chaparral, and Chris' "fun run" NSR Porsche 917
rounded out the field. C-Bill was kind to us, and left his very quick Fly Porsche 917 in his
race box, and ran a Ferrari 312 (with a custom fabricated light-weight wing - ha!).

Chris set the high mark, with his "fun run" NSR. The top 6 finishers all had over 60.10 laps.
Al finished 4th by .35 lap, to 3rd place C-Bill. Tom came in 2nd by .60 lap to the winner,
Yellow Dog. Congratulations Dan. Max had a very respectable 51.60 laps.
Scott had over 55 laps - nice! Troy (aren't you glad you didn't golf today) had over
59 laps, good for 7th place !! Ryan, Dave, and Troy all had heats with sub- 12 second lap times.

        1.Yellow Dog, 61.90 laps
        2.Tom, 61.30
        3.C-Bill, 60.90
        4.Al, 60.55
        5.Ron, 60.25
        6.Roger, 60.10
        7.Troy, 59.15
        8.Steve, 58.02
        9.Will, 57.30
        10.Scott, 55.90
        11.Gill, 53.55
        12.Dave, 53.35
        13.Max, 51.60
        14.Tony, 51.30
        15.Ryan, 51.15
        16.Chris, 62.70 Fun Run

        fast laps;
yellow, 11.238 seconds All by Chris!
        black, 11.297
        white, 11.277
        red, 11.459

Mostly due to the time (9:20 PM), and also the bad weather, the NASCAR race was not run.
Whenever possible, we will continue the process of doing the tech inspection a little ahead
of time, for each race. This saves time for racing.

The large turn out of drivers for the last couple of weeks has been great. The fact is that it
takes longer to run each class. No complaints mind you, just the reality.
In the future, when there is a large number of drivers (a good thing), we may race 2 classes
(not 3 classes), so as to get done at a reasonable time.

Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time; & thanks to the drivers who came.

Next Monday, 4/30, is an even numbered day of the month. The classes raced will be:
        DP, GT, and Group C2.

        • Additional manufacturers allowed in the GT1 class

Beginning next Monday, 4/30, two additional manufacturer's cars will be allowed in the
GT1 class: Fly, & SCX. Both of which Ron sells at Ace Hobby.

The GT class rules will be updated, later this week, to reflect this addition. The GT1
class consists of modern (1990 and up) GT cars made by: Slot-It, Scaleauto, NSR,
Fly, & SCX. Rules for motors, pods, etc., will continue.

The GT2 class, that has been raced for several years, also continues, unchanged.

            • Race results for Monday, 4/30

              12 drivers came, enabling us to run fully marshalled races. Thanks to Stan, for marshalling;
and to Billy, for running the button.

Not too much "bold talk" during practice; but the shop owner did make more trips than usual
into the 'track room' to see "if there was anything he should know about" !
We've got Ron nervous - ha!

              DP

11 cars were on the grid. It was a fairly quick, close race, with 6 people with over 60 laps.
The top four finishers were all within .80 lap of one another. Tom came in 4th by .15 lap,
to 3rd place C-Bill. Yellow Dog finished 2nd by .15 lap, to the winner, Al. Congratulations
Al. Gill got below a 12 second lap in one of his heats.

              1.Al, 61.50 laps
              2.Yellow Dog, 61.35
              3.C-Bill, 60.85

              red, Al, 11.564

              GT

Eleven drivers took the start, 7 GT2's, and 4 GT1's.

              GT2
It was a fast race, with Chris taking the win over 2nd place Yellow Dog by 1.40 lap.
Congratulations Chris. Steve finished 3rd by 2.45 laps over 4th place Will.
Will made a good decision, and swapped his GT2 for the NSR Corvette GT1 that he started
with. After a quarter of a lap he took the 'Vette off, and saved it for another day.
Ryan & Dave had over 55 laps, and also had sub-12 second laps in 2 of their 4 heats. Nice job!

              1.Chris, 62.25 laps

              GT1
The development work on some driver's GT1's has been very extensive over the last few weeks.
In a fast race, Gill finished 4th by .10 lap, to 3rd place, Tom. Gill had over 58 laps with his
new NSR Mosler. Nice! Ron came in 2nd by 1.80 lap, to the winner, Al. Congratulations Al.

1.Al, 64.30 laps Second most laps in the class.
              2.Ron, 62.50
3.Tom, 58.40 Electrical problems (broken wire).
              4.Gill, 58.30

              Group C2

10 drivers were on the starting grid. There were several Lancia's, and many other Group C
car "manufacturers" out there. As fast as these cars are, they almost seemed slow, in the
beginning, after having just seen the GT1's run.

It was a very fast race, with five drivers getting over 60 laps. The top 4 finishers were all within
1.35 laps of one another. Yellow Dog finished 4th, by .20 lap, over 3rd place, Al.
Chris came in second by .60 lap, to the winner, Tom.

Gill & Dave both had over 55 laps, and had sub-12 second laps in 3 of their 4 heats!

              9.Max, 53.25
              10.Ryan, 51.30

              fast laps:
yellow, 10.942 seconds. All by Tom.
              black, 11.137
              white, 11.156

Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time. Thanks to the drivers who came.

                • Race results for Monday, 5/7/12

14 drivers came out, enabling us to run fully marshalled races. Thanks to Stan, for marshalling,
and to Billy, for running the button.

What with a large parts order arriving in the afternoon, everyone was busy making
their "piles" of parts, on the front counter, during practice. Ron was so busy pricing
all the parts, he hardly had time to trash talk - ha!.

                  DP

14 cars were on the starting grid. The race was fast, and close, with 8 drivers going

two of the "fast laps". Will drove a good race, finishing with over 59 laps, with his Riley.
Troy was flying, with over 59 laps, nice!
Tony, Scott, & Troy all had heats with sub-twelve second laps!

                  Can Am

12 drivers took the starting flag. C-Bill very nicely left his super fast Fly Porsche 917 in his
race box, thanks Bill. Roger drove a Scalextric Ferrari P4 330.
The race was fast, and close. 8 drivers had over 59 laps. The top 5, had over 61 laps.

                  NASCAR

10 NASCAR's took the start, the first outing for these cars in four weeks.
Again, the race was fast, and close. Five drivers had over 58.50 laps, and that takes some
driving, with these 100 gram heavy weights. Ron came in 4th by .35 lap to 3rd place Al.
Tom finished 2nd by .52 lap, to the winner, Chris. Congratulations Chris, who also set a new
record for total laps in this class. Scott had over 55 laps, nice! The NASCAR's were running well, tonight.

                  yellow, Tom 11.925 seconds
                  black, Chris 11.825
                  white, Tom 11.704
                  red, Chris 11.934

Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time. Thanks to the drivers who came.

It's great to see the enthusiasm of the newer drivers, as they make the transition to "veteran
                  racers". Good job, men!

Chris had a great night, sweeping all three race wins!

Next Monday, 5/14, is an even numbered day of the month, so the classes raced will be:
                  DP, GT, and Group C2.

The rules for another class, vintage Trans Am cars (1967? - 1974?) are in the final stages of
                  development, thanks to a lot of work by Chris. These "pony cars" should make for a good show;
with orange end bell motors, and a probable minimum weight of 80 grams.

Experimentation with the GT1 class will continue; looking at how to make the sidewinders more competitive with the boxer, & "Flat 6R", anglewinders. Don't unload your sidewinder pods just yet.

The new Slot-It Lola (modern LMP) car is a quick, great handling car, judging by the performance of the four Lolas seen on the Ace Hobby track. Perhaps, in the future, a class for them will be
developed at Ace, depending on driver's requests.

                  Tom

Rules for the new vintage Trans Am class have been posted. See Page #1, post #2, of this thread. Many thanks to Chris, for all his work in the development of these rules.

When enough racers build Trans Am cars, this new class will be worked into the rotation.

                    Trans Am class rule highlights:
                    - Orange end bell motors
                    - A range of Spec. gears, for sidewinder & inline, giving the builder some choices.
                    - Spec. hubs & tires [15 x 8 mm, # 1403 classic (silicone) super tires].
                    - Manufacturer's "complete" cars (like Scalextric, or SCX);
                    one brand of body, with another make of chassis (hybrid);
                    a manufacturer's body with a home made pan type chassis;
                    are all allowed.
                    - Must weigh 80 grams, minimum.

See the complete rule set for all the details.

                    Get your late 60's - mid 70's Trans Am Camaro's, Mustang's, 'Cuda's, etc. built, and let's race!

                    Tom

Thanks Dan. I emailed my Arrow pre-order to Ron on 5/28.

I understand from reading in the Slot Car Illustrated forum, that the distributor (Alan Smith,
@ 1/32 slot car us) is trying to guarantee a pre-order price, on all orders in by the end of
                              May (5/31).

                              So...
Anyone that wants the new Arrow Saleen S7 (pre-ordered), should let Ron know ASAP,
