Allan, I am delighted to see you take over this prestigious event, I know it is in very capable hands.

I am going to pass on this silicone year, but I hope to see you next time

I wish you and all the entrants a great event and good luck!

Thanks Chris, but no returning champion in the P class for 2016.............? We'll miss you and the flying Lucky Strike Matra!

Are silicone tires really a turn-off for this proxy? How do the rest of you feel about silicone vs. rubber?

I know there are entrants, track owners and drivers that love their silicone tyres, so be it not for me to open that can of tyre worms again.

I have had some success with a silicone tyre car in the RAA before, but for the most part tuning cars with silicone is a pain for me. There is this dark art of prepping silicone tyres that is hugely time consuming, not to mention extremely boring, and then I have to run many, many, many laps before my track is clean enough to give me good feedback on how well my car is handling.

Just slapping a set of silicones tyres on a rubber-tuned car, has not worked for me in the past.

                      Hi Alan,

Have to agree with Chris on this - down here Silicones are not used, thus there are no facilities to test and tune for Silicones... I've attempted to tune a 'Silicone' entry on rubber and then fitted what I thought were well trued silicone tires to that, but it hasn't gone well.....

So, I'm also out for next year's CanAm, but will be back for Rubber / Urethane in 2017....

                      Cheers, Tony.

I haven't decided if I'll enter yet...have some other time commitments pending. But if you're considering not running silicones then that would definitely decide it for me. I'm a silicone fan.

Nope, 2016 is a silicone tire year for the CanAm proxy; no changes there.

I asked the question about silicones vs. rubber because of Chris's post (and the subsequent post by Tony).
