  • Round 7 - The Ring

    Gentlemen,
Start your Engines! - The 12 pony wars proxy cars arrived safely here at the Ring just before Halloween. They were packed very impressively in a pristine box with lots of stuffing. The container was unpacked and all cars looked in order. Braid and tire cleaning/maintenance was performed so all was good.
Herr Stroebl. who was recently visiting relatives in the heavily bombed east end of Warsawa summoned R32 faithful to help drive & marshal the pony war cars. Halloween weekend was not good for the R32 crew and so this morning qualifying will take place, followed later by the race. Pictures will be posted along with the results and comments. As soon as the cars are finished they will be packed tonight and mailed out Monday for the next round.
    Good Luck to each participant!
    Cheers!

          Round 7 - Arrival @ The Ring

Well, the cars all arrived at the Ring and teams scrambled to their assigned pit stalls...

          MOPAR powered big blocks...

          ...along with Fords & Chevs...

          ...and the smaller imports...

...film & TV crews prepared to begin recording the excitement...

...photographers leaned to get close ups...

          ...technical inspections concluded...

...everyone cleared the track prior to practice...

...last minute adjustment on #111 - one mechanic noticed very sloppy gear mesh and gold coloured dust in the wheel well - that could only mean one thing - a deteriorating pinion - so it was quickly re-positioned along the motor shaft to prevent a failure in the race - this should get the car through the next few rounds as well...

...one by one Fritz Stroebl released each car onto the cleared track for their shakedown laps...

            Qualifying

The field of cars took to the track for a brief qualifying session...

Rudy Berger, a brave local sports photographer, planted himself near turns 2 and 3 to capture the competitors...

...as they powered their way around the track...

...V8 engines thundering into turn 2...

            ...and turn three...

...the rumbles not more than seconds apart...

...accompanied by the adventure of some...

            ...then MOPAR power...

            ...and the dominant Chevy Camaro...

...what a colour - easy to spot through the forest...

...and back at turn 2 the screeching Porsche...

            ...the rumble of the Chevy...

            ...and more thunder...

...and then the checkered flag fell...

                              Round 7 Race

...the only loud bangs heard this day were from big and small block engines... security around the track was tighter than a condom... and the mood was as loose as the nearby town bicycle although security forces could be seen chasing a bearded woman into some shrubbery... ...and after the three legged leder hosen quartet finished their rumpapum waltz Fritz Stroebl gave the order and the flag man jumped... then they started the race... THEY ARE OFF!
... round and round they went in groups of 3 starting with the slowest qualifiers... 3 minute heats, once per lane for a total of 9 minutes racing... the same driver raced all of the cars in their designated lane for the whole event... after 9 minutes power would shut down and every car would glide to their final position which was tabulated to the nearest 1/100 of a lap... ...Herr Stroebl would sign off on the final result...
...and here are photos of the cars 'placed' precisely where they finished, in no particular order...

Now we go to the official lap charts...
