  • Just back from the Hotslots Scaleracing Regional Event.

Just got back from the Scaleracing Regional Event at Hotslots132 in Champaign IL.

This was one of the first Events at Hotslots132 on their Carrera Keyhole Track.

5 races were run with over 50 Entrants in total in the different classes.

First up on Friday night was the Slot.it Classic class which was run using Slot.it S2 tires and allowing a wide variety of tuning. This was run using Slot.it V12/3 Orange end bell motors as supplied in the Stock car. However they could be run in any configuration with the stock gearing for that set up.

This produced a wide range of set up's on the cars, although many ran sidewinder.

I do not have the heat race totals but here is how they finished.

    Position......Driver..........Car...........m/a........RPM.....M/S......weight/Mag weight..Laps in 24min.

Brent broke a rear wing and did not finish one heat.

    Fast Lap Brian Smith 10.366.

Next up on Friday night was the Slot.it Modern Class, again similar rules to above.

This race ran for 16 minutes the lap counts are now added.

    Fast Lap Brian Smith 10.153.

Hopefully we can extract the Lap Counts from the computer tomorrow to give a little more information.

Saturday saw the Slot.it Challenge and Scaleracing Manufacturers Challenge Races plus testing with the BRM's and a Scaleauto 1/24th Class IROC Race.

The Store opened at 9.00AM and from then I built and converted cars to comply with the Slot.it and Manufacturers rules.

Several Racers stepped up and purchase new rides from Hotslots which I set up with them.

Racing got underway after a 3 hour building session with Slot.it Group C.

To run a controlled race all cars were gridded on new Scaleauto SC-2009N wheels and tires, this is the hard compound Scaleauto sponge tire.

This race was run with 4 x 5 minute heats, it was run as 2 groups of 4 and one group of 5 to avoid people sitting out for long periods of time on a 4 lane track.

Once the dust had settle here was how they scored.

    Position....Driver.........Car......weight/Mag weight..Laps in 20min....Fast Lap....Average Laps
    1st..Jake Corley....JaguarXJR12....70/77.................111.................10.446..... ...10.832.

    12th..Ken Windsor...Mercedes C9.70/77..................80...................12.108... ....14.953.
    13th..Craig Straub...Porsche 962..97/105................79...................12.157.... ....15.2.

Some very close racing was seen in this class. With Slot.it Group C cars running almost completely stock only allowing a little tuning and added weight if wanted we saw close racing as the lap times show. Gear ratio was open but all cars ran the V12/3 motor and stock to these cars motor pod.

Next we ran a fun race for the Scaleauto 1/24th scale cars as I did not have enough cars for every driver to have their own Rent-A-Ride. Due to time we ran only 2 minutes per heat.

Position..........Driver.........All ran Scaleauto Porsche GT3 cars IROC style......Laps....Fast Lap

    1st..............Wayne...................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride............44......10.479.
    2nd...........Zack Wells................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride.............43......10.236.
    3rd...........Dan Thorlton..............Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride.............43......10.459.

    5th...........Kent Shove................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride.............42......10.665.
    6th...........Dale Oakes................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............42......10.922.
    7th...........Brian Smith................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............42......10.771.
    8th..........Bob Redman................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............41......10.345.
    9th..........Brent Oakes................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............41......11.117.
    10th........John Thorlton..............Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............40.......10.962.
    11th........Steve Hendrickson........Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............40.......10.684.
    12th........Craig Straub................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride..............36.......11.904.
    13th........Ken Windsor................Scaleauto Porsche GT3 Rent-A-Ride...............35.......11.695.

This was a fun run so Racers could get a feel for the Scaleauto 1/24th scale cars. Everyone enjoyed running these on the Keyhole, but before next Event Hotslots will be making some improvements to allow 1/24th scale cars to run better on their track.

The Final Event of the Weekend was the Scaleracing Manufacturers Challenge which pits Avant Slot, Scaleauto and Slot.it LMP/GT1 type cars together. This is a tuning class with the Manufacturers parts catalog, only major rule is you have to stay original configuration of motor. Also as this is Scaleracing no body mods, no cutting or filing. Can tune with weight and gear ratios are open as long as original Manufacturers parts. All cars ran on Scaleauto SC-2007N tires as a control tire for this Event.

Here is the results of the Scaleracing Manufacturers Challenge. This was run as 2 groups of 4 and a final group of 3 drivers.

    Position......Driver...............Car............ ......weight/Mag weight..Laps in 24 min..Fast Lap.
    1st.........Jake Corley..Scaleauto Radical.............81/86...............144.................9.424.
    2nd........Zack Wells...Avant Slot Porsche...........79/87...............142.................9.453.
    3rd........Brent Oakes..Scaleauto Radical.............83/90...............134.................9.837.
    4th........Brian Smith...Scaleauto Radical.............82/89...............134.................9.774.
    5th.......Bob Redman..Avant Slot Porsche..................................134...... ............9.928.
    6th.......Dale Oakes...Slot.it Nissan RAW....................................132........ .........9.861.
    7th.........Wayne.......Slot.it McLaren F1 GTR.............................129............... ..10.066.
    8th.......Dan Thorlton..Avant Slot..Audi.....................................124 ..................9.742.
    9th..Steve Hendrickson.Slot.it McLaren RAW..............................122.............. ....9.747.
    10th....John Thorlton..Slot.it Nissan..........................................11 5.................10.837.
    11th..Craig Straub....Scaleauto Radical.......................................87.. .................8.291?

Humble apologies to Craig his was the last of several of the cars I built for this race ( including the top 4 cars ) and I forgot to tighten up his gears. This cost him lot of time as he drove with slipping gears for a big part of the race before we realized . Once pitted and tightened he flew to a disputed 8.291 fast lap sounds good to me Great job Craig and of course all the other racers as well.

See you all in Chicago October 20th - 23rd for the Finals.

We had a good crowd, and I believe all had a fun time.

I really appreciate those who showed up for this Regional Event. I know the people at Hotslots really enjoyed seeing a great group of racers having a good time. I feel they will grow a great program, which is what we need to support more Regional Events. This race will run again next year at the same time as a yearly Regional Event.

Also anyone who wants to come to the National Final you do not need to enter a Regional although as these Events build Regional Qualifiers will get first refusal in the Endurance Events at the National Final. I hope to see a Hotslots132 Team or two at this years finals. October 20th-23rd at Mid America Raceway in Chicago.

Yeah Yeah LOL... Wings, Spoilers and I really don't get along very well. However, I didn't tear up anything on the ScaleAuto 1/24th neither but the radical was by far my favorite on Saturday
