  • Finally, I'm not the only old school inline motored car in this race?

    • Drives pretty good on the big track Alexis. I didn't get near enough time to play with it but it was getting better and better with each lap as the track surface bedded in your tyres. It is quick down the straights and you can get the back to hang out through corners but it isn't too loose. Once you've done a few laps it is very easy to push hard and all you get is the back sliding so you know to back off a little bit. I could race this car easily for a 5 minute bracket without coming off. It may not be as fast through the corners as Manimmals but there's no drama with this car, it gets down and does the job. I hope to do more testing tonight.

Don, feels very similar to drive to yours yet has a totally different chassis. Maybe be something to do with being inline?

      • Thanks for the feedback Paul.Yes Don you are not the only inline but it is not oldfashion ,just inexperience.I started building chassis in 2008,mostly to race at Wolverhampton (UK) classic events, this one is #24(i think)and all of them have been inline.
I had not enough time to experiment so i opted for inline just to be on the safe side.I' ve allready started an angle winder as a preparation for next years proxies(CanAm,RAA,this one),when i'm finished i'll post photos.

        • #24? It shows. Your car laps about 1/10 ths quicker than most of the other cars. There's only about 4 cars that are quicker but not by much. Yours is also able to do low lap times all day without too much effort. Very nice to drive.

          • Paul,
Any luck with the added weight in the front on my BMW?

            • Hey Paul you may want to ask that this thread be put in the SCI Proxy section..... I wish Dennis and I would have had time to enter.....

              • Good idea, I'll have a quiet word with Mr wet. 13 cars this year is still a good, manageable group but next year should be bigger. The rules won't change but I'm thinking of allowing a wider variety of psudo Group 5 cars to enter. Cars such as the wide bodied Mustangs and TR8's + others that were occasionally allowed to race with the Group 5 cars. I might even build a wide bodied Fiat 500. I'm sure someone somewhere raced one and called it a Group 5 car.

Pat, I haven't had a chance to do anything with your car but will do some tinkering this weekend.

I now have all the cars and the 1st round will be held next Thursday night, 31st May.

Depending on the number of drivers I get I'll run either 3 lanes of 5 min each or 4 lanes of 4 min each.

                Cheers

                Paul

Yes please Paul, this is what i would like to race(Fiat 850 Spider Gr5-photo from a spanish forum)

I have one build from an Ocar resin body,it is in testing status still unpainted.
Maybe 2 classes one narrow one wide track?

                  • And how about one of these:
A Toyota Corolla or a Classic Mini if I promise to tart them up first before sending them in? The small car class could be restricted to cars with a short wheelbase (say up 80mm) and narrow track (up to 52mm). Don't really see a need to restrict tire width - it would take some real chassis engineering ingenuity to put in a pair of 12mm wide rears in a Classic Mini or Fiat 500. And that would really invoke the spirit of the saloons/sedan racing of pre-1990's.

                    • No sub-classes. If Manimmal can get an Escort to lap faster than any of the other cars then having a little car isn't a disadvantage.
