Default Race # 8... Far-A-Way Hills

Okay guys I picked up the cars from Franks last night... Had some 1/24 racing to do last evening. But when I got home I broke out the cars and took each for a 10 lap test drive to get the feel for them and then 10 laps to see what kind of times your cars will do...

1) Lou E. car # 13 Best time 7.386
Cars handles well and no problems with my down hill turn.. Just needs more motor... And it is a bit loose..

2) BWA Car # 2 best time 7.502
Good handling and no problems with any turns. little tail happy trying to power out of turns..

3) Danni Car # 114 best time 7.385
Car was very loose. and tipsy in the turns.. needs a but more weight..

4) PeteN95 car # 6 best time 6.916
Again loose and tipsy

5) Rixvette car 5 Best time 7.061
Much better on my track. no problems with the down hill turn... tail happy but forgiving to drive..

6) Acmost car # 7 best time 6.622
Again better on this track, stable but like most have to be careful powering out of the turns..

7) MNewns car # 33 best time 6.555
Very little brakes on this car.. noticed it at Franks track too.. But very stable and you can charge the turns with this car... consistent to drive...

8) Munter car # 9 Best time 6.690
Car is very loose and hard to drive out of the turns..

9) Greenman62 car # 66 Best time 6.405
Again just not enough grip.. very hard to power out of turns.. But on the plus side it take all the turns well.. Even the down hill.... The car can be forgiving to drive if careful with power.

10) Silverhelmet Car # 8 best time 7.047
Nice car and forgiving to drive with decent grip... just under powered

11) Borninthe50s car # 4 best time 6.521
This car is really suited for this track and is fun to drive.

12) MMMoose1 car # 2 best time 7.172
Car is wasy to drive, just needs more motor...

13) Chichumbo car # 14 Best time 5.650
The car was made for this track and the times show it... now all we need to do is figure out the other tracks

14) JBriggsK9 car # 30 best time 5.450
Take that Frank Again this car was designed for this track... Home track advantage never hurts....

15) Mether05 car # 15 best time 6.366
Really like this car.. design is much like mine and the car can really be pushed in the turns.. But still have to be careful with power coming out of the turns....

16) Fangio car # 26 best time 6.518
Again I like this car... not the fastest motor or best handler but it is consistent and forgiving to drive. And it just plain like this type of track...

17) Beejay7 car # 11 Best time 6.371
Again another car that likes this type of track... good handling and good speed.. still need to watch coming out of the turns.. Had to replace a lead wire that broke.. The guide needs stops to keep it from doing 180s and this stressed and broke the wire..

The race will be this afternoon after 3 or so..

Track will be at 10 volts, 3 min. heats on yellow and red lanes. But unlike Franks timing system that will stop the clock at track calls mine is a old system that will not stop the clock so driving and keeping the cars in the slot is going to could for a lot..

Thanks for the updates Chris, they are really a fun buch of cars aren't they?

Any idea on why heavier cars work better on yours and Frank's track? I think finding the balance between the Rochester tracks and the rest of the proxy will be the key to some podium finishes next year.

Lou

The biggest advantage with the heavier cars is they are more stable in the turns as they have more weight down low to counter act the high CG of the hard bodies. So you can attack the track more and drive harder into the turns without the fear of the car coming off..
Weigh has always been the key on our tracks.
That and traction, the sponge tires we use really give outstanding grip... Almost to the point of the same grip you get with a magnet car.. Most all or out non magnet cars will kick the snot out of any Scaley car running with a magnet and good silicone tires ... And some of the real good ones will hang in there with the slot-it cars.. but have no real chance of beating them...
But for a non magnet car to run only 6 or 7 tenths off the times at 10 volts that a Slot-it will run at 12 volts is not to bad....

My mistake this year is I am too heavy ( can't believe I am saying that ) And it has just too much weight that throws the rear out way to much in the turns on the other tracks... That and too much motor (30k) and not the grip I should have...

That is the other thing about our tracks. The silicone, S2s, rubber, super tires just do not give the grip on my track they do on the others.. All the cars are loose to some extent and we will have to watch the power coming out of the turns..

So for me the hunt is on for a better tire...

I think the track surface has a good deal to do with it and the fact that the base is sponge tire rubber..

Oh and Greenman. I just noticed this morning you still had the tap tail we put on your guide for Franks track so it would count.. After taking that off your car turned out to be the high qualifier behind Frank and I.... 6.142 is your best time...

What's a "tap tail" ... so the track timing software picks it up?

Tap Tail,,,,,,,,,,I have Brent Carlson's timing system. A white guide and sometimes a smaller guid will not trigger the light sensor. So what I do is put a piece of painters tape on the guide and leave it long, giving the sensor more time to pick it up. I works in a pinch, but as Chris pointed out it will slow the car down a tad.

Yes.

some of the cars where hopping over the sensors so Frank puts some tape on the guide to make it longer and then the cars would count right.. he also has to do that with the white colored guides.

Works for most of the cars but we had one.. don't remember which.. that still missed laps so we had to keep careful count on the laps he missed...

Chris....

This have been a real treat for me and I am learning a lot for next years run.... Good luck to all in the up coming races...

Couple of quick notes...

Danni your car has one wheel (Right front) sticking up in the air about a 1/8 of a inch and is really hurting the car in the turns..... Tried to loosen one screw to see if it would come down but no luck.

Borninthe50s You might want to send a crown gear to the next race location as yours is about shot..
