Default Mclaren M20

I saw something on the internet that Scale Auto produced a lexan body of the Mclaren M20. I have never seen one,has anyone else ever seen one ?

Close but no cigar:

There is a lexan body by BHR on big-biddum that is a Mclaren M6-- .020.

They also have one that is "styrene"-- .030. No mention of method of production (cast or injection molded).

Nice looking, though.

I casted a McLaren M8A-M8B hybrid. It fit the Tyco LWB 440x2 Pan Chassis, but I could probably get it to fit the Mega-G gen2 chassis. I would have to dig it out to see.

I think BSRT did an M8. Rothwell Racing Shells may have done an M8D or an M20. Don't know if either is still available.

I don't really like lexan bodies, but BOY do I admire people who can get them right like that M6...

Actually Sponge you are correct . There was a Scale Auto McLaren M20 and there was also a M12. Some years ago now Gary held a GJet National Championship race and the theme of the Main required a Can Am body . At least the M20 was produced for that race and I believe the M12 was also . When you sent in your entry you selected your body from a list and it was sent to you . There were the 2 McLarens , a Shadow , A Porsche and I don't remember what else .
Although I couldn't go to the race I signed up so I could get a M20 . I raced it for some time . It might have been the best balanced Super Stock body ever . I also painted one for another entrant who did attend the race . Being a big Chaparral fan I still use a M12 for Can Am themed GJet races .

Thanks for the answers. Slotbob,I have the M6 & it is very nicely molded, but kind of thick. I haven't painted it yet.He also does what looks like a nice Lola T163 that i want to get. Fastlap, that is a nice looking M8A/B. Maddman I have heard that Rothwell did a M8D,but have never seen one.Sure would be nice if someone had one for sale.ctdurf,I have what I think is an M12 that I got from npc hobbies in an AJ'S bag. They also have what looks like a Lola T 260. The bad thing is they don't identify them as such. I their listings they are called a can am racer & a can am wedge with no picture to show. The M20 in the picture is fantastic.I sure would like to find one of those. Also a great story on why they were made.

Thanks,
Mark Heckman I race with the guys from Rockford Illinois who hosted a national back in the 80's

Terry @ HC Slots has some old school can am bodies. I picked up some Shadow MK 3 bodies from him. He says the are from old parma molds. They are great looking & molded well. Only problem is that to be true to the car you have to paint it black. Black car, black track kind of hard to see, believe me I have tried !!

Silver, white, gold, red, & yellow all go well with black.

Put a bright stripe of your choosing down the middle and proclaim it "good".

Actually, you could do four of them and have the stripes match your lane colors.

Default Still More Lexan Bodies...

Short track fans, particularly dirt late model fans, check out the "wedge" from HC Slots:

(they're not McLarens, but they are orange...)

Sponge, I'm with you, in that I would like to acquire the McLaren M20 body, in either plastic, Lexan, or cast resin (Gary, ANOTHER project for you!)
I saw a reference to the McLaren M12; AFX provided that in Lexan (along with the Ferrari 612) in a "Hop Up" kit, to replace the hard plastic (and heavier) versions they already sold. Here is my McLaren M12, mounted on a BSRT chassis:

Here is the companion Ferrari 612, also on a BSRT chassis:

Lexan can be featureless blobs, or very detailed, depending on the maker and the creativity of the decorator.......

Speedhoppy, I never knew that afx did lexan versions of those cars. Pretty cool.
My wish list for lexan Can Am cars is
Mclaren M20
Mclaren M8D
Mclaren M8B
Mclaren M8F
March 707
Chaparral 2H
Chaparral 2J
Shadow MK 2
Shadow DN4
Nissan GP7 Japanese Can Am
Car Model magazine from June 1974 has an excellent article by Howard Kilgore on what lexans were available at that time. Sure would be nice to see some of the above lexans either molded or re popped from existing bodies.

Default Casters--new revenue stream?

It would seem like a caster could make whatever he wanted--from a specific model to a high downforce wizzard-like blobbo, and then suck down lexan bodies over them.

Instant second product line.
