This year is I will re-enter my porsche 908/2 with component upgrades as well as tuning adjustments.
Here are the new parts I will be adding to the current chassis:
Scaleauto SC20 ballbearing motor(smooth as silk)
Slottingplus universal screw-in guide(my current favorite)
Slottingplus 17x10 universal wheels with cut-down fly wheels as inserts
Supertire 1407 (glued and trued of course)
Slotit. 1mm offset canbell drive sidewinder pod
Photos of my progress later.
I will be interested to see how you fare with that ballrace motor, Moby. I have shied away from even using axle ballraces in proxies. I have noted that none of my proxy cars have come back showing much sign of being over oiled; and some of our colleages in proxy series have espoused no further lubrication for their cars once racing commences. I wonder if the advantage, real or percieved, will outweigh the risk to reliability..?!
Hi Chris,
I agree, sometimes the cars maintenance is overlooked.
I have always felt more is better in regards to oiling bearings, except for motor bearings.
One thng to consider is; these cars really are not run for that long of a duration.
12 minute x 10 rounds= 2 hours of run time. Just barely long enough to be considered a test of endurance.
In the RAA we have been migrating to 8 minute race time which puts even less stress on the cars.
I do however, think a mid season maintenance regimen should be required.
As a reference, my RAA LMP entry is usig the same motor and so far, is leading the pack.
I will assess the condition of the motor when it returns and make my decision at that time.
If you have not yet tried these motors by scaleauto, you really need to. They are rated with the same power as a slotit orange endbell, but they are smoother than any motor I have tried including NSR.
I have had good results with every scaleauto motor I have tried, ball race or not.

Fair call, Moby. Ihave a Scaleauto long can waiting for the rigt proxy, and Phil K has used some, both locally and in proxies to some good effect. Yes I have noticed your taillights on the track, and seen the smug smirks of your team in the pits as my battered old Pug limps in..
Make the best of it, while you can....fame is fleeting I fear
About the maintenance; track hosts do the best they can, but they cannot be expected to go over each car with an eye to its weak points as the car's builder would. Consequently, I've had cars come home with partly broken body mounts, dented rims, rear axles shifted off center, and front axles binding. Not all of these things can be caught in a quick once-over to reset braids and lube bearings. Some of these things are caused by collisions and wrecks. Therefore, I try to build bullet proof cars, with redundant spacers on all the axles, self-cleaning bearings at the front, and generally ensure that the cars are overbuilt, compared to cars I would race and maintain myself.

You are absolutely spot on aobut that!
I'm enjoying the ride this year. I liken it to golf: an overall win in a proxy series is like a hole-in-one in golf. You could spend a lifetime in pursuit of accomplishing it. If you are fortunate enough to achieve it, you probably don't feel the urgency to pursue it as much and can just enjoy the ride of the event. I hope someday I can tell you if thats true!
The blue can ball bearing long can from scaleauto is another great choice.
They also have a great no ball bearing long can 25K motor.
The only thing they dont offer is something in the neighborhood of the slotit teal or NSR 20K shark.
Two more great motors.
Yeah, Shark again for me this campaign. 2011 917PA is now doing sterling duty in local club CanAm series. After race, during testing, knocked out a clear fastest lap for night; still honking.
This season will be 917/10 #002; Seppi at the wheel of orange STP car, currently in process of molding by phabulous Phil K (Tassie Resins)-see avatar.
Trying out for GT this year also; big 'Cuda on a Sloting Plus Reynard, 21k long can etc. Pictures soon as I can get basics right and master photobucket.
Spent the evening at redlynr's tuning my 2012 Canam entry.
So far so good.
Gave a few thoughts to the objections to the modern low profile tires I have fitted to this years entry.
Decided to make a compromise and address the scale appearance issue.
Solution?
Got the body mounted but it leans a little to one side , thought I could sort it out but not getting it, .
Trying different gears and motors.
Still need to make inserts, and paint interior.
Since I had enough parts left over for a spare car after entering the PonyCar proxy race, I''m entering a Capri in the GTU class.
Here is the plan: GTU class, 1969-1972 European Touring Car based Ford Capri 2000 cc model with small "bubble" flares as used in the era. Paint scheme to honor my friend Ira Schoen who competes in vintage racing using the only (to my knowledge) 1971 Capri to have raced in the TransAm
Chassis, Sebring with weight added, Fly Minilite front wheels and tires with SlotIt aluminum rear wheels with home made Minilite inserts and silicon tires. Slot it or Carrera wood track guide....whatever I have in the box of spares.
Gearing...I don't know, but they claim the car I built for the PonyCar proxy is quick, and this is virtually the same body/chassis, with just a bit wider rear track, so maybe 9:27...any body with experience on these tracks have a better suggestion?
I made the decals, and had someone else make a set, so had a choice, but in the end I liked my own injjet printed ones slightly better, so last night I slapped a coat of paint on the car and a set of decals. As soon as the windshield and othe "glass is in, I'll mount the body and send some photos.
Interestingly enough, someone made a "skin" for the car on GT Legends that represents the car as it would appear if the car had the same flares I've molded. They did a beautiful job on the graphics, but mislable the car as an RS2600 (the car is a 2000cc straight 4).
So this is what it will look like, with a few changes in decal placement...
