News from Sideways regarding their Lancia

I think the sideways it a better rendition overall. Fly foreshortened the overall length to fit in their cases. So a sidewinder with hub-less wheels wouldn't fit? I would have given up the performance difference form angle to side for the proper wheels. The Fly Lancia was a sidewinder right?

The FLY Lancia was a sidewinder.

Racer is anglewinder. For their primary market long can anglewinder is the only way to go, got to get as much magnetic help as possible from the motor. The correct width wheels, 12mm if my memory is right, will not fit under the body on the driven side of the motor.

Interesting info indeed, bnovamodels...

That explains why the overall shape an design features of both the Fly and Racer models of this car are so similar, and also quite different from the real car in certain areas:

So the designer of the old Fly model deliberately shortened the characteristic long and sleek nose of the car just so it would fit inside the standard Fly display perspex box.

And as Racer for the its new car apparently took a short turn and used the old Fly design as a pattern model rather than the real 1/1 car, the same old (too) short nose prevails for yet a generation. As well as several other "Fly characteristics", different from the 1/1 car, in the overall design of the Racer.

Isn't life wonderful?

In the picture below the similarities between the old Fly and the new Racer models can clearly be seen. Note how the yellow guide lines corresponds almost perfectly between the new Racer and the old Fly version of the Lancia Beta Montecarlo.

Also note how well the blueprint (top) and the picture of the real car (bottom) corresponds, and also in what areas both the Fly and Racer models differs from the real car. This is extra clear in the nose portion and in the area between the door and the rear wheel. The Fly and Racer are both too short in the front and too long in the door-to-rear wheel area.

Coincidence? I think not.

Now that is a neat way to do a comparison.

It looks to me that most of those changes can be attributed to draft angles. The front end reverse slant and curves in the side create under bits. Those would make the body hard to get out of the mold. Both Fly and Sideways made the same adjustments to get a good pull. The door handles are suspiciously alike.

Sorry, can't find anything in that link to validate that claim.
No shortnose version as per the Fly/Racer models, only ordinary nosed cars.

I opened my eyes. Even in the pictures you've chosen there are at least two different front ends on those cars. Every one of the pictures on which the car has the Lancia emblem on the grille has the short nose.

The result anyway is that our Capri Zakspeed has definitely "performance" and for sure will lap down the other one. If somebody has the idea to change hubs with bigger ones, I think he just have to forget it since there is no room for that with this configuration. This is honestly how it is.

Hi Marcos...I've had one of the Capris on order from my local supplier for several months...so I can't wait! Now if I could only convince you to make Capri MK1 (stock, non flared) racer...you'd have a customer for life! AND, I'm sure there would be no complaints about the wheels being too small...they would look great!

I have to agree, as just looking at the two "prototype"(or testing depending on how you look at it) versions have different noses, and the tail end detail around the exhaust(or what looks like an exhaust pipe) is different. On the silver wheeled car pictured it looks as if the nose has a different slant to it, the front of the nose is lower, and the mirrors are clearly different. The grills are different as well as the "splitter" are on the nose.

Looking at the spoiler it looks like the one on the silver wheeled car is shorter lengthwise, but the camera angle leads me to believe that I may be wrong in this observation. Wish there were more pics to look at.
