Tech inspection is finished.

What a nice field of trucks! Out of the 15 trucks, 11 passed tech inspection with flying colors, 4 didn't. Most infractions were seen on the chassis/body to track clearance (1.6mm); there were also 2 cosmetic infractions, one being undersized front tires, the second was a body wider than 72mm.

Cosmetic infractions won't be fixed but the trucks will be deducted 1 point of their totals. The trucks with clearance issues will be brought back to compliance and 1 point will also be deducted from their totals.

Here is what I used for clearance testing:

Each plastic strip is 1.6mm high.

Here is the breakdown:

- Truck #3 (2 infractions):
* Undersized front tires (23.52mm)
* Chassis/Body to track clearance below 1.6mm
Fix: I plan on using guide spacers to raise the chassis.
Comments: The front wheels are not in contact with the track (before fix), lowering the guide will raise the wheels farther.

- Truck #11:
* Chassis/Body to track clearance below 1.6mm
Fix: I plan on using guide spacers to raise the chassis.
Comments: The front wheels are touching the track (before fix), after I lower the guide they will not.

- Truck #14:
* Chassis/Body to track clearance below 1.6mm
Comments: Yeah! It's one of my trucks! I didn't check clearance after my last gear testings, apparently I used-up some tires.

- Truck #21:
* Body wider than 72mm
Comments: No clue! Maybe I used too much glue when attaching the side panels; either that or the panels moved with the glue was curing.

If your trucks needs to be fixed and you have a different solution, please send me a private message detailing what you would like done until Wednesday night, May 16 (Qualifying for the first round is confirmed for May 17).

Pictures and details for all trucks coming soon. Stay tuned.

Thanks Ary for getting on this!
BTW I ground a set of rear tires on a hot day down to 24.75mm and when I was doing a check before sending it was colder and mine were undersized 23.96mm (about .002" under) and I had only ran the truck 50 laps on them! I think if I had checked them the next morning that 24.75 would have been about 24.25 when cooler! or only about .010" extra tire size when I ran it 50 laps and they went under......! I had to grind down another set to get it to clear!
I think Paul had a truck that was wider in his stable last year...? I remember reading someone saying that.....? Maybe there are some of the molds that are a little wider.?????

Thanks for all the work teching all the trucks and providing great photos and spreadsheet. That all takes a LOT of time!

I have a few more questions. I noticed that trucks 26, 68 and 5 are listed as cabovers yet they have that skinny spine type chassis of the Buggyra. Do that come that way? I have a Mercedes Cabover like #8 and like the photos for that truck, it has the full width chassis. Just wondering if they were retrofit or if that come with that chassis. If someone was looking to buy one of those cabovers with the racey chassis, are they identified differently from the other cabovers or do you have to know what's what?

Also, I have another SISU truck I bought used and it's missing a rear bumper. Does anyone carry spares for these trucks?

thanks again...

BB

BB,

All MAN trucks come from factory with the narrow chassis. Fly is producing them again and finding one should not be a problem, there is a GULF livery MAN expected to be released this year.

Regarding spare parts for trucks: All I have seen were chassis and side mirrors - and those are hard to find nowadays. I would suggest the buy/sell section of this forum for the bumper, someone might have a spare.

The man chassis and the Buggy's have the same "Dogbone" design chassis but they are not the same unit. Cabover just refers to the cab design. BTW for info guys I never knew there are 2 (that I know of) different Sisu "Pan" chassis.... one has a shorter guide lead (and IMO is not as good) the other because the longer guide lead one has a cutout I use a plate in it to make the guide area stronger and a longer lead is better IMO.
Thanks Ary for all the work!

there are actually 4 of the sisu chassis.
we're talking about the guide section here?
deep , semi deep(got an indentation like a normal slot car chassis)
flush (on one of my old one)
and the one that came with the plain white truck)

Thanks SG. When I bought the other 3 I did not know there was a difference. When I went to build one it had a flat pan and no indent .... but I knew I had seen one with a indent so I checked and I did have one like that and it was the longer guide lead type so I switched the body and used that chassis to build for the proxy.... (and did not finish!)

I like the one with the deep indent so I can place a plate there so it does not break as easy. I have not seen the semi-deep one... does it have a longer guide lead ?

Thanks for all the work on the spec sheet as well Ary! Interesting to see all the different ways "to skin a cat" that people used. I see maybe I should have added more weight...? My Sisu is only a little more weight than my Man.... then I look at your weight and wow! How the heck do you get that slowed down? Your Buggy was Hooked UP! I see my truck has the most magnetic..... Is your track Magna Braid ?
