Default 17X5, 17X6, 17X7 wheels?

Hi all,

I need to replace the front wheels on my Cobra Daytona. Does anyone know a source for 17X5, 17X6 or 17X7 aluminum wheels?

I found 17X5 by PCS but after an extensive search, it is only available in the U.K..

Thanks in advance,
Ary.

Ary the wheels you found are 17mm in diameter with the tires. . . I do not think that they are the ones you are looking for. The CB Design 15x7 wheels are about as close as you are going to get without machining something yourself.

The actual 1:1 Cobras used 15" nominal diameter wheels, which translates to 15mm in our 1/32 system of sizing wheels. So, any 15x7 wheels (width near 7mm, although you could use 15x8's on the rear I suppose) would be the right size. However, the wheels that Revell-Monogram gave us are oversized; I think they scale to 16" diameter or so. Unfortunately (as Al Penrose pointed out), R-M enlarged the wheel arches to accommodate the non-scale wheels and tires. So, if you use scale wheels and tires on your R-M Daytona, they will look too small in the wheel wells. I did this years ago, and have lived with the results. Too bad, because the body is otherwise quite good.

Bummer, I thought the wheels were 17mm. I have SCC 17X8 insert wheels for rears, need something narrower for the fronts.

Dang!!!!! When I looked for the specifications I found this: http://www.shelbydistributionusa.com/csx9000specs.aspx. It listed: Cast alloy 18" x 8.5" wheels in front, 18" x 10.5" rear.

Well, I guess I'm going for the replica look with the oversized wheels -- chassis is already done. It should look good as well.

Yes, those are the specs for a modern replica of the Cobra Daytona coupe. By the way 15 inch nominal wheels are actually a bit over 16 inches in diameter, the 15 inch part refers to the ID of the tires. Slot.it has a 16.5X8.2mm wheel that might look better.

Yesterday I tried some 15mm and 16mm wheels on the car, I could use them but now I have the picture above in my head -- and I like it. I'm going with the 17mm and the replica look, tires will have a lower profile and overall same diameter as 15mm wheels and taller tires.

I still don't know how this car will handle, the front wheels are very close to the guide. I modified a Slot.it GT40 chassis for it, the body is resin by TopSlot. Will post some pictures when its done.
