Happy to report that the cars arrived this morning, safely packed in its shipping container, all cars arrived intact no issues to report.
Have to say what a delight to have these beauties here,I haven't really done much but drool over all the cars,I'd be happy to have any of these on my shelf!
At this stage I will be running this round on the 18th or 19th,when the time is right I will give the cars a practice run and sort out the pecking order from that.
Track is 16.5metres,recessed braid with 90mm spacing, variable power supply,Trackmate timing system.
I ran a round of the IPS here last weekend and the fastest car was lapping in the 4.95 or so with most of the field in the 5.2 sec region.
I couldn't help myself last night and I had to give the cars a run just to get a feel for the cars,I could have picked a better time,we had ,what has been described as a level 2 tropical cyclone go through here with 100kph winds and horizontal rain, seas up to 8 metres!
However to more important matters,I ran the cars for just 10 laps or so per car and there appears to be no issues,Phils car has a loose wing mirror,I will reglue before race day,and Mikes' ferguson doesn't like the corners too much,it wants to tip so driving style may need to be changed for that car,the rest of the field are good.
There are some stand outs but by now we all know what cars I am referring to,without singleing 1 car out as there are some beauties, but the No.26 Ferrari of Matts' is my favourite,I had this as a kid when it was originally released by Monogram back in the day,my car was no way like yours Matt!
I know with my group there will be a queue to see what cars be purchased after the series is done(don't hold your breath boys)
So, after the run last night a number of cars into the 4.8-4.9 region and once I get qualifying done I would expect a few more, there were a lot of cars in the 5.0-5.2 region.
Great field, good to run and,in the main ,easy to drive, what more can I say?
I knew that you could not resist for long. . That pretty red number 26 car needs to be run at a gentle pace to make sure it stays so nice and your hearts desire. . .
I've been very good,I have tried to keep myself from running the cars too much, but today I thought it appropiate to run qualifying,if nothing else to let others know where they may be in relation to the other runners.
No surprises, generally all cars improved on their best practice times, which are shown alongside in brackets.
Not too much to say about the whys and why nots,in the case of the top 5 or 6 cars they obviously had good traction and whatever tyres they had decided on were working well,(Pauls tyres) which are the main tyre used on my track, and the most notable thing with the top cars was that you could push hard, with some of the mid pack cars you knew that if you tried too hard you would end up with deslots and therefore ruin a good lap,
At this stage we are on track to run the race this coming saturday.
Thank you for the update. You have two cars listed as number 50, is that a typo? Well there is Matt up at the top again with the red devil. It is nice to see the guys from Canada up at the top for a change, your track and their test track is similar. Will you be running this race solo or will you have some help?
I am looking forward to seeing how this race progresses.
Sorry for the typo on car No.50,have amended that to car no.69.
I have drivers, its a funny thing, since moving to my new home, which in some cases is an extra half hour up the road from my old place, members in my group now see it as just too far,it wasn't that long ago I would drive 2 hours each way to race in Sydney, its funny to see just that extra bit of effort has stopped some from enjoying themselves.
Running the proxy solo is not ideal, but in some ways its so much easier as I can run it to suit my own schedule and I know the cars are getting a fair go,maybe this is something which is more common than we realise?
Terry
The drivers coming are good consistent drivers who will give the cars a fair run which is what I was after,in years gone by I have been disappointed with some of the inconsistencies.
NO SURPRISES??...holly schmolly I'm still in shock how well the old #69 Ferguson quallified!....thank you...now lets aim for a podium...till now we've sadly been a back marker...give'er!
Thanks Terry ! Its good to see some of the middle order up there ! Gonna be interesting to see how this one plays out the first few times are pretty close. Good luck Gents !
Good to see o' number 7 nearer the pointy end of the grid. Too easy to dream of podium finishes and then have my hopes dashed again... so my mantra is "it's only qualy, it's only qualy..."
Not too much to report today apart from me running the cars this morning just double checking that all cars are as good as they can be for tomorrows race.
Some interesting times from the practice session,1 car into the 4.7 area, its good to see improvements in most cars,I have done a bit of a repair to 1 car and although its not a lot faster its much more driveable.
Race time will be at approximately 2PM Saturday 16th,I will post results as soon as we compile them.
Really looking forward to this, there are some cars very close in lap times and although you cannot look past the top qualifiers,a suprise result would not be out of the question.
