tick, tick, tick...

I know we'll have both a group of locals and a group from up north (Tacoma). If they don't get stopped at the border.

I've got my Stratos tuned and ready to go. Just need to decide on a Group B monster. Either the Audi or perhaps the 037. Or maybe I'll just kick back and enjoy the modern class with a nice Pug. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

tick, tick, tick...

You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll howl at the moon.

The NASTE Carlo. Coming to a track near you soon.

Very soon.

Asked around. Seems there's five of us and a dog coming from south of Seattle.

Default Oregon Rally Championship - Final

The Oregon Rally Championship has been successfully completed.

17 rally drivers and 30 cars competed throughout the day on a series of 4 separate stages.

The day began at Rico's Autumn Hills in Milwaukie with Breakfast! Thank you Rico!

The locals have all seen this track a few times, it was new to most of the Washingtonians. It has a tricky turn or two.

pictured (L-R): Greg "Greenman" guides his Peugeot off the start line. Tony "AJK" and Bill "wb0s" (our current NASTE season Champion).

Monte looking serious while Greg and Tony look on.

Next up on the schedule was a trip off to Bill's beautiful and challenging new track in Fairview. Since it is a new track almost none of us have laps on it. To make matters worse we ran it in reverse.

Tracy powers his Mini around the track while Rico and Scott look on. He was actually much happier than he appears.

Chrissy "Crikey" puts her Ninco Jaguar through the paces while Tracy, Rico and husband John "The Professor" keep watch.

Next up was Drew's rally track in Kenton. Since it was nearly 80 degrees outside by this time it was nice to spend a few hours in Drew's much cooler basement. Only Drew had seen this track prior to the event and it proved tricky and challenging. A great rally track.

Going around the track: Drew, Larry, Sarah, Rico.

Sarah rockets her Subaru around the track with Scott and Tony on the left.

The Pusherman pushes one of his Porsche cars around.

Photogs doing their thing...

From there it was off to Hillsboro and Monte's rally track. We used the same track we had set up for the SCXWW Rally Proxy just a few weeks previous - how timely! It was tricky and challenging. Cars got air on both the hump bridge and the suspension bridge. Drop arms ruled the day. And then there was dirt. Real dirt.

We'll have to get the pictures, more to come.

The following classes were run:

Historic - cars prior to 1975

Modern - cars after 1974
* AWD
* 2WD

Group B - only Group B cars
* AWD
* 2WD

Overall for the rally:
1: Monte - Lancia 037 - 5:45.08
2: Rico - Peugeot 205 - 5:47.05
3: Scott - MG Metro - 5:59.02

Group B 2WD
1: Monte - Lancia 037 - 5:45.08
2: Rico - Lancia 037 - 6:10.22

Group B AWD
1: Rico - Peugeot 205 - 5:47.05
2: Scott - MG Metro - 5:59.02
3: Greg - Peugeot 205 - 6:33.75

Modern 2WD
1: AJ - Ford Focus - 6:05.08
2: Bill - Porsche 911 - 6:21.90
3: Tony - Porsche 911 - 6:50.32

Modern AWD
1: Tracy - Subaru - 6:09.68
2: John - Skoda - 6:50.36
3: Drew - Citroen - 6:52.42

Historic
1: Tony - Porsche 911 - 6:14.74
2: Monte - Lancia Stratos - 6:23.37
3: AJ - Lancia Fulvia - 6:32.61

And here's a link to the complete results.

The winning car:

Oh, and can you tell me, what was the last RWD car to win a Group B event?

More to come...

What a great day, a long day but what fun we had. Thanks to the PSSRA gang for making the trip south, it is always enjoyable to visit and race with you guys and gals. Looking forward the next time. Thanks to kidvoltage, our esteemed organizer for coming up with the battle plan and congrats to all the class winners.

A few more pictures from the event courtesy of Tracy.

The Greenman's beautiful Alfa Romeo on the rally course at Drew's

Chrissy's Ninco Jaguar

The Greenman's Group B Peugeot

Rico's ancient Group B Lancia 037 (car is 27 years old)

Scott's Group B MG Metro - third overall finisher

Rico's other Group B car was a Spirit Pug - second overall finisher

Monte's Group B Lancia 037 - first overall finisher

The final stage - suspension bridge, hump bridge, sliding curve, dirt turn around, tight turns off camber - plenty to be worried about here.

Victoria's Audi Sport Quattro reaches the dirt turn-around

Must be having a little down time in the pits...

Bill's 911 catches some air on the suspension bridge - too much air could land you off the road...

Scott's MG Metro charges the uphill section

This was fun.

Going into round four I was all of 2.5 seconds back of Monte.
Little Metro was great in practice so I had hope.
Once my run started though.....seems I had dislodged the front axle drivebelt. D'oh! Not sure how many of the ten seconds I lost were due to the belt but shore and some of 'em.

Not bad with a car I'd not run but about ten minutes and that on a track which bore no resemblance to any of the four which were part of the rally.

MSC MG Metro with BRM Supergrip tires on the back. What else....i did narrow the rear track width a bit to get the tires under the body, easily done by shifting a couple of the stock axle spacers, and I loosened all four of the body mounting screws. That's it.

Next time.
