Hope nobody is getting tired of my boring pictures, I'm just proud of what I get done and wanted to share.
The bracing is all in so now it's time to bondo seams, nail and screw holes. That will be my mission for this afternoon. Then it will be time for some paint! I am going to take some advice I was given and spray paint the slot colors in. Is there any set standard for whay color each lane should be?
1. Take a look at the Slot Car Corner wiring kits as well, they are also very nice.
2. For a Power Supply, I have a spare Pyramid PS26KX that I can sell off if you need one, send me a PM.
3. Paint the slot - it looks way cooler than lines next to the slots. Colors are up to you, but specially if you get power panels form Slot Car Corner, decide beforehand, as the power panels are colored. also, try not to have both green and red, as Barney is color-blind! I have Red blue and yellow on my 3-laner.
4. Track paint - you absolutely cannot go wrong using UMA, it's a little more expensive than other paints, but the surface is way better and more tolerant of different types of tires.

Dennis
Thanks Dennis, PM is on the way about the power supply. I spoke to Dom yesterday and he suggested that model so that's what I'll be getting.
I haven't fully decided on driver's panels yet. I may yet make my own. I found a very good wiring diagram yesterday so I might give it a go to cut costs a bit. My Uncle is an electrical engineer and has signed up to help me out. So I'll probably be okay.
I will definitely be painting the slot. Just finalizing the colors. Since I am of Irish decent and my track once scened will have a rolling hills/countryish feel to it, I was thinking of using the Irish flag colors of green/white/orange just to be different.
And what is UMA? I want the best surface possible.
Thanks for the help.
Additional advice:
Forgot about the Slot Car Corner track wiring kits. A second recommendation for those as they definately simplify things.
Take Dennis up on the PS offer! This should be a no-brainer.
Technically, there are "regulations" for slot colors if you look for them. This being a home track however, they are totally up to you. I used red, white & blue with color coded PM controllers.
Track paint most commonly used is flat latex. I used eggshell, but it was a bit "sticky", track surface is now flat. I will defer to Dennis knowledge of UMA, as I have none, and Dennis is one of the most knowledgeable guys I have met. If you got the funds go for it, you shouldnt need more than a gallon for that track.
Urethane Modified Acrylic :
Properties of both a primer and adhesive
Tintable to pastel colors with universal tint colors
Interior / Exterior – Low Temp. & High Humidity applications
Have them tint it with two portions of black to get a nice grey (it is white in the can). Generally the paint stores won't add more than two tints as they claim it decreases its adhesion properties, but for us that works fine. Unfortunately it only comes in gallon cans, for around $45, but IMO it is worth every cent in the long run.
Dave we have a Dunn Edwards here in Riverside. There are 2 types of tint at Dunn Edwards..... one like Dennis's store has were they can only use 2 shots of tint. Then there is a better quality tint were they can add more to get darker color shades if you want that will not affect the paint. The guy here is really an expert on tints.
If you come up we can go there and get your paint. Yes paint the slot like Dennis did as it looks way cleaner than old school strips on the surface. BTW I can see Dennis lane colors but the color dots he has are the day glo/ florescent type Avery dots and the red and yellow ones. look the same to me. Get Avery's true color dots and I'll keep the car in the right lanes!
Look'in good and I'm a Orange hound (Team CORT is: California Orange Racing Team) So I'm all for an "Orange" lane!

Hi, lots of good advice here, my only 'suggestion', OK my .02 (Canadian) is to consider whether to paint the entire slot, or to place small 'markers' at specific points on the track where cars are expected to de-slot, to each their own, but IMHO (or not so humble), if you are planning to 'scenerize' the track, I think it looks more realistic without the entire slot painted, but again, 'user preference'....There are some shots of my track here where you can 'see the dots', Red,Yellow, Blue. Either way, your track is looking excellent and loooking forward to seeing the progress!!
If you're really into "racing" --having a few dots doesn't work as well. If you're totally into "realism" --then that really does look better. But here in SoCal--we're 'racers' that enjoy scenery to promote realism--but not deter from the racing. Turn marshall's need all the help they can get to put the car back quickly. To each his own!

Man you guys are awesome! So many great ideas and talent here!
I think after looking at several different tracks I have come to a happy compromise. Nothing says it has to be like everyone elses right? I like the look of the slot being the same color as the road bed (Your track is AWESOME by the way Porsche911!) but hate the old school look of the stripe on the road bed. So, I think I will use the dots every few feet but instead of little stickers I will paint them on. I will get some vinyl polka dots and throw away the dot and use the surrounding material as a stencil. I will still use the green/white/orange combo of colors. I like it!
I measured the middle lane last night. It's almost exactly 35 ft. Not too shabby.

Well a bit more work tonight. My wife reminded me of how bad my eyes are now and how hard it might be for me to keep track of a little dot. So I went ahead and painted the slots. I had the paint left over from a project in my daughter's room so I used it. Perfect colors for my Irish flag tribute. So Barney, you got your orange lane!
