Great job Bill! I like 917s
what do You think about the engine position? I think the engine must be positioned horizontally.
what is a problem? a big Kyosho's motor?

I'm thinking that the "thinkers" at Kyosho must have spent some time on the setup of the running gear, including the motor position of the DSlot43. I'm sure they looked at all the other 1/43 slot cars out there and if they thought the way to go was with the motor lying horizontally, they would have gone that way. Maybe with the motor sitting like they have it, it adds traction while accelerating because of the weight transfer from the motor coming directly down towards the rear wheels?

Maybe. And I agree that Kyosho thinkers do their job very good.
I just talk about realisic look of the car, accurate copy of the real car, it is also an important thing when you make a copy of the legendary race car like 917. Kyosho's diecasts are excellent copies.
Maybe slotcar is a compromise between speed and appearance.
Anyway the car looks wonderful and it is fast, I'm a bore

Thanks all. My next project car is also from the 9hr Kyalami race, only the next will be the Gunston 917 from 1971.

By the way, what process do you use to strip the paint on the body so you can re-paint it?

The Martini car comes very clean with a 91% isopropyl alcohol bath. If you plan on painting with a light color, prime with grey first then white if you need to because the black mounting posts will show through the body and your paint job if you prime with only white..Remember to remove the taillights.
