Hi all, cars have arrived from SA so we will be able to run round 6 this weekend. And it is with a big hearty welcome we welcome all the players to The Sandown Park 100, which will be held at Calder this year due to lack of rubber on Southern Loop.
This is Stubbos' track at Cape Paterson. It is a gloss enamel surface, with each lane just over 9 metres though not necessarily a slow track. Race will be run at 12 volts. A good time for the Tasman cars will need to cover around 2.5 meters a second average to get a good result. Timing will be trackmate.....all going to plan.
Qualifying will be tomorrow night. Race will be on Saturday. Drivers will be Alan and I driving the middle lane. 2 heats, one in each direction. Two Marshals will cover both ends of the track, luckily, as marshals are hard to find in this neck of the woods, they have absconded to seek warmer and drier climates in Tasmania !
As we come to the closing two rounds, I, and on behalf of the director, just want to acknowledge and reiterate the thanks to all you guys who have built cars and then trusted them to us, a couple of newbies', to manage them on your behalf, and a big thanks to all the hosts for giving up your time and putting your efforts and support into this proxy!
Hi guys. Nice looking track, I bet it is fast. Good luck to All the participants, may the drivers have fun and the turn marshall's get bored.
You gents have done a great job for your first foray into hosting a proxy race. The important thing was keeping the racing on schedule which other than a hickup at the start that you compensated for has been handled very well. I have no complaints and will be ore than happy to build a car and send it to you to compete again next year.
Cheers Ken
Stubbo is the main man behind the scenes that has articulated proceedings and has done a great job!
Lets hope all runs smoothly for the last 2 rounds and everione gets their cars back and in good shape!
Will check over the cars before qualifying and get times posted asap tonight.
I want to add my congratulations to those written by Ken, above. The first annual (I hope) Tasman Cup Proxy has been most entertaining so far and I look forward to the remaining races.
My only complaint... and it's a major one... is that my car keeps losing. But I can't blame you folks for that, can I?
Can I? No, I suppose not...
I think we know whose fault it really is, don't we? None other than Yours Truly... that's who.
Next time I'll remember to install the 2.5 liter motor before shipping the car down under.
Here ya go, qualifying results for round 6.
Will post some comments later.
1 #3 Slo1 3.184 -consistent runner crashes when pushed.
2 #8 Ken 3.185 - seems to have a power band which makes it a handful.
3 #12 Mike 3.248 -good pick up tends to tip, good quiet runner
4 #26 Matt 3.249 -is quick but a bit unforgiving, tips before it slides.
5 #4 Phil 3.289 -consistent car needs a bit more grip.
6 #47 Boss 302 3.289 -Spritely car nice to drive and nice to drift, stayed in the slot Geoghegan would love it.
7 #2 Stubbo 3.297 - could use more grip, can get into a good rhythm.
8 #69 Marek 3.343 -good car hangs on but can drift out too far and not get going again.
9 #7 Stew 3.350 -Nice car, smooth runner , tips easily.
10 #9 RIR 3.381 - Good car to drive has a lot grip.
11 #10 munter 3.400 -Good consistent runner, looked faster than it was, no deslots.
12 #17 Stig 3.405 -power slow to kick in lacks grip.
13 #18 Bantoff 3.467 - nice car to drive , stays in the slot but lacks some speed.
14 #6 Lim 3.577 - Nippy car has get up and go but no brakes.
15 #50 Alexis 3.601 - good speed , could use more grip on this surface , desloted easy.
16 #22 Mark 3.695 - very heavy car , a stable car to drive.
17 #13 Mike 3.822 - seemed to go alright but tipped easy on the corners.

Reason: Adding comments
This track surface must be very grippy! I have never seen Matt's car ever tip. Looks like some close races at the top with .001 separating you and me, another .001 between Matt and Mike and a tie between Phil and Boss. This will take some thought on how to place the cars in the tipping competition. If you crash out here you will lose at least one lap while being marshalled. You are the second person who has said my car has a different power band than other cars, it makes me curious as to whats up with that?
Hi all, race is set to get underway this afternoon. Stubbo and I will be driving middle lane in each direction. Track has good grip but not as good as last night, can expect that to improve as the day warms up.
Ken your car seems to really come on in the mid range. Matts car is similar but does not react in the same manor. These cars have some punch and you have to keep on them.
Lot of close times in qualifying with a lot of good consistent runners. All the cars are fun to drive with none being a chore to drive.
Tyres and braid were cleaned and bearing lubricated prior to qualifying. Repairs to Alexis' car with the driver put back in. Stubbos' car had a broken front right tie that was soldered back on and Mareks braid was changed, one braid was almost gone. Could see no problem with Phils car.
Round has been run and won.
4 Heats of 3 minutes on the middle lane 2 heats in each direction
I drove heat 1 and 3 , Alan heat 2 and 4.
Fastest time was Phil 3.338 Heat 3.

The Podium
Congratulations to Ken and Phil
More comments tomorrow when internet service is more reliable
Gotta mention a big thankyou to Alan for helping me out with this one , cheers mate !
One of the highlights of the round was Alexis' driver trying to evacuate his car he turned around repeatedly before his run was done, and this is how he finished
You and Alan have done a stellar job getting this race in, I like the two direction twist to the race also. It seems my car liked lanes 3 and 4 much better than one and two. The morale victory of having the only car to score a 52 lap race is little comfort to see you pull another 6 points up on me going into the last race. Congrats to Phil with his car getting a podium finish. It looks like an off really hurt by comparing fast lap times to laps finished.
It was a really interesting exercise running in the different directions.
Heats 1 and 2 were run in the "reverse" direction and heats 3 and 4 in what is the "normal" direction.
Normal is always a bit quicker but to me the surprising thing was the handling difference in some cars. Your car was certainly better in the second half. In the reverse direction it felt like it could break free at any time. In the normal direction it was much easier to keep it going at consistenly good times.

Thanks Alan for the update. I was curious how the two directions of travel affected the cars.
Firstly congratulations to Slo1quick, mmmoose1 and Phil on the podium finish.
Here are a few thought on the cars. I drove 2 heats in the same lane but in different directions. The first heat was in the “reverse” direction while the second heat was in the “normal” direction.
#2 My car. It was quick but didn’t stay in the slot as well as other cars. More work to do.
#3 Slo1quick. Quick car. No deslots in either run for me but it had to be driven hard.
#4 Phil Kalbfell. A good car. Suited my style of driving. Nice drift out of the corners.
#6 Chenglaw. Quick in a straight line but not much in the way of brakes. Left the slot randomly.
#7 Old23. I just couldn’t get it to work. Very nice looking car though. Maybe it will do better on the bigger track next week.
#8 mmmoose1. Nice car and capable of some quick times. Not quite as good in the “reverse” direction compared to the other. For the second heat it just seemed to hook up Ok and ended up with the greatest distance and fast lap for that heat.
#9 RIR. Another car that I could not get to work as well as others. It looked like it was going really well but the end distance was disappointing.
#10 Munter. Nice car to drive. Not as quick as others. In my second heat it got to speed pretty quickly and stayed at the pace and ended up in the top 4 in that heat.
#12 Mike Ackers. The car qualified well but couldn’t sustain the times over the distance. I think the bigger track next week might help.
#13 Mnewnes. This car did not like turning left. It kept coming out of the slot easily.
#17 Stig. To me it was one of the better cars to drive in my first heat. As were most of the Tassie cars. I think they suit my style. Probably not as good in the other direction. Don’t know why.
#18 Bantoft. Pretty car. Ok in my first drive but just kept on keeping on in the second. It just did not leave the slot.
#22 SlotsNZ. Not a bad car to drive. Just a bit too heavy. Plenty of potential.
#26 Beidmatt. I just could not get this car to perform at its full potential. Hopefully it will do a lot better on the bigger track.
#47 Boss302. Typically Tasmanian and a good car to drive.
#50 Alexsis. I had real trouble with this car. It seemed to have no grip and a real handful to drive.
#69 Ferrari1950. A pretty good car but every now and then the back would just step out in a big way which cost it a lot of time.
I will probably be driving them again next weekend so it will be interesting to compare the cars on vastly different tracks.
