I don't really care if the value is destroyed as I have no plans to ever sell them. But some people might like to know.
Depends on if you have them to resell later or have them to use. Cleaning them often improves the looks if you plan on reselling. Once you repaint them, their resale value generally goes down as most collectors want originals. I should mention that most collectors want them to be like brand new so if they are beaters, break out the cleaners and paint.

That's exactly what I thought. It's just like anything alse really. My cars aren't beaters but they aren't collector quality either. Just good used cars. I will be breaking out the paint and having at it.

Quick question for you Revell guys. What holds the motor in the DB-5? Mine is flopping around like a fish out of water. Towards the front of the chassis is a fork that the motor sits in. But nothing is holding it there. Is there a clip or some other device missing?

If that is one of those aluminum chassis cars, then that is pretty much it. The chassis is junk as it is easily distorted and if you bend the tabs that hold the motor in too much, it will break. I recommend hot gluing the motor in place.

Thanks for the idea. I have the body off and all apart for painting so I'll do that while it's apart. I places the interior tray on the chassis without the body and see the little tabs on it that hold the motor down. I guess Revell never intended these cars to last 40+ years.

Do you have a chassis like this?

If so, check the front of the chassis and Squeeze the fork section to hold the motor up front, next look at back of motor near gears and make sure the fork is bent over the motor.

These are made from aluminum and bend easily, but, with just the right touch of Pressure, they can be working again.

Also, you can always switch to the plastic chassis or the Wheelie Chassis.

Default To paint or not to paint ....

If you do a decent job of painting it will not affect resale pricing. Hard Core collectors want mint in the box anyway. I think it is more important to have the correct trim included and no missing parts. I was surprised the last time I cleaned out the herd what brought big money and what didn't.

BTW, the revell plastic chassis with the drop arms are pretty horrid.

Best,

Dave

Chipsta,
Yes that is the chassis I have. I've done a bit of squeezing and tweaking and it's better. I also figured out that the interior tray has little tabs on it that also help hold the motor down. It will never be a speed demon racer, but I just want it to stay together while it's running.

Dave,
Yes I agree. I am knee deep into painting it now so no turning back. With the broken bumpers and whatnot it was definetly not worth anything as a collectable. And it's far more valuable to me looking good running around the track then as a pristine original shelf queen. And I agree 100% on the plastic ladder type chassis! I will be looking for the older style aluminum one for my Mustang to replace the plastic one.
