Default Flyslot's Alpha line of cars

Saw this car at a place where I regularly do business and since it was a nice looking Porsche 997, I bought one. Now this is not an inexpensive car (what is anymore), but I was a bit surprised at what I got.

The car has a very light body, similar to an SCX pro 997 I bought a few years back. The glass does not appear molded in with the body as it is quite light. The body also has bits attached to it such as a very sturdy wing and rather cheap looking front parking lights and regular headlight and taillight inserts. The interior is a black, unpainted driver with a blue helmet. The logos almost appear to be decals as the ones over the front radiator exhaust area split when pushed down into the grooves.

Chassis is that flat inline type used on their DP cars and some more recent releases with the usual gears, wheels and axles. Two small bar magnets which provide a lot of attraction and are easy to remove with the rear one requiring the removal of the axle assembly to do so. I slipped on some silicones, fluffed out the braid and it ran with no issues.

Now, the advert stated an 18K motor, but I have to think it is 15 or 16 K as it is not fast. It is also very noisy, this probably due to the body. 18K motored Flyslot cars with this chassis will turn laps on my track at about 21 seconds. This one could do no better than 23.5. Visually, the motor looks just like their standard 18k version.

Did I get a pooch motor, or is this a series of low powered cars?

I have 11 of their DP's. 7 of them have very quick motors, the rest much less powerful motors. All with the same wrappers. Maybe Fly has a lot of these slower motors still in stock.
Does the new Fly Porsche GT handle well?

I have a few of the new Flyslot inline cars, a 917k, Ferrari 512s, and the 997. The 917k came with a slow motor, the 512s did not, I've not yet run the 997.

Had to work on the rear axle, rear bushings, and gear alignment on the Ferrari to get good results, but overall I'm pleased with the cars, less expensive than their Fly predecessors, and the descreased detail doesn't bother me as I see them as runners.

I just recieved the "new" Martini Porsche 917K which I had read was mounted on the new inline alpha chassis. This one must be new old stock as it is on the sidewinder platform. The product number is 005105. I also noticed that the chassis underside has the old Fly logo obliterated. It also has the old independent front axles and the button magnet. So I guess I will wait a while until the hobby retailers get it sorted out as to which are inline and which are still sidewinders.

The motor in my 997 started slow, but wore in to be very good. The gears were another story, absolute junk-how hard is it to make the pinion round, and put the hole in the middle? Oh, and offset gear for offset layout, that wouldn't be too much to ask would it? That said once decent gears were fitted she's extremely good, quicker and more stable than the dp cars

After several hundred 165 foot laps, I just did not think the motor would come to life so stuck a stock Scalextric 18K version in the 997. Lap times immediately improved by nearly three seconds a lap (from the upper 23s to the low 21s). I must have just gotten a dog motor. Still very noisy, however.

I went to an scx pro 9t and slot.it 27t offset, works a charm, but not money I wanted to spend. The motor in mine isn't ballistic, but is for sure at least a match for a scaley, and was so from the time it was rebuilt, maybe 20 minutes running time tops, so me thinks you've hit the noisy unbalanced self destructive nail on the head with your motor.
