I was flipping through the 1/32 cars reviews on this website and came to realize that the last one to be posted dated 2010, and most were in the previous decade. Have people stopped writing reviews on SCI? I know there are other websites that have reviews, and some are right up to date with the latest offering from the industry. While reviews don't always address everyone's concerns, they give a good indication to potential customers who are looking to buy. This is very important to anyone who tries to race slot cars with a limited budget.
So why no more reviews? I know in the past, cars have been sent to reviewers by the manufacturers. Given the difficult economy, are no cars being offered for racers to critique? Are reviews still happening but buried in separate threads throughout the site?
I would love to be able to read up-to-date reviews on the latest cars, without having to go out to another site.
I agree with Retro Racer. Where have the reviewers gone?
For some of us who don't have the budget to pre-order all the new cars, it definitely helps to see reviews before purchase, to see how the cars perform and decide which cars are more desirable.
Hmmm, I like testing cars.... Maybe I should get in the reviewing business?!
I have a track that runs RAA, Slot.it Shootout, and Fly Truck Proxy. Plus a skid pad! And a NINCO skid pad too!
Time becomes the issue I think for a lot of folks. I know when I get a new car I either prep it for NINCO or my Scaley track and off I go. There are a bunch of cars in the PHR garages that need some attention, so there is that time bandit again. Maybe I should start running them through my standard "practices" for these tracks and that might be helpful to others. I know the NINCO track crowd is pretty quiet here on SCI.
Personally, I used to write a lot of reviews here, but don't any more. All my reviews go to HRW now. It's probably been two years since I've done one for SCI, and once I had started, I was doing about 2 or 3 a year. Not a ton, but more than most.
I don't miss them. I go to HRW and read ElSecundo's reviews.
While some manufacturers send cars in for review, not all do that. And not all cars that get reviewed were donated. Most are purchased from our own pockets and we happily agree to write a review for the masses. At least that's what goes on at one site that I know of, probably this one too.
The thing with reviews, it's easy to say, "I can do them!", but when you sit down to do it, it takes lots of time. If you don't agree, pick a car, any car, and review it. Take a look at some of the better written reviews, like ElSecundo's for instance, as a starting point. You'll find that it could very quickly become more of an nuisance than a pleasure.
I've done a couple, and it really is a task to undertake, and it seems, as may be the case here on SCI, that they go unappreciated.
Woah! Just because nobody comments doesn't mean we aren't reading them! I dig thru the reviews on the various slot car sites from time to time - particularly when I want to check the innards of cars. I don't post comments, but the reviews are much appreciated.
I'm bad then because I have read all the reviews you guys have written in the past but didn't leave any feedback as I never thought it was required or needed as the reviews spoke for themselves and were very well done. Never realized you were purchasing these cars yoursleves so I apologize for not responding but I enjoy reading the reviews and suggestions/tips you often provide on getting them to run better/well. I go to HRW all the time to read the reviews now but haven't joined or contribute to any other forums but this one as I don't have the time (or I'm too lazy) but I will have to start leaving some feedback in the future???

Actually, I only recall one review from Kurt on SCI in the last five to ten years (maybe my memory is failing).
Which is unfortunate, because it was a good one (good photos, well written, appropriately critical), and therefore much appreciated. Hopefully he will find the time soon to provide more of these for us!
Writing reviews is a thankless task. It involves more work that simply buying a car. Maybe the core of guys who did reviews got through that stage and have moved on. Next car you buy Retro do a review?
Most reviews are posted on the front page of SCI - I know that some reviews have been written but have not been posted due technical difficulties. The other thing to remember is a lot of people post "mini" reviews either under the brand forum heading or under the news and reviews thread.

It must be failing, you'll find about 10 or 11 on SCI.
But as Abarth Mike mentioned, it's a thankless task, and to answer Chapman's question, yes, there is a particular reason. I post my reviews where it isn't a thankless task, simple as that.
