Question Has anyone converted a Slot It car to Carrera Digital?

Ok, I have but encountered a problem.
After successfully installing Carrera chip 26730 into my Slot It car and running the car on my track for 100-150 laps the chip shorted out. And that after the car shattered my previously established record by half a second, it held the track like a dream and functioned flawlessly untill my CU started to beep and blink indicating a shorted circuit.
A closer inspection of the chip did not reveal any visual damage, so i am assuming the damage occurred internally. I now wonder if I should install a resistor on the motor to prevent damage on the next chip, maybe the draw is too high. Don't know which one to choose though.
Anybody experienced this scenario? Tried converting a slot it car and was more successful then I am?
Any ideas or comments are welcome

Hi, this is an area I know next to nothing about (hopefully Mr Flippant or somebody will notice this), but I will ask what power supply you're using, and which motor is in the car?

Maybe some of the people who posted their chipped Slot Its can help you.

I know Porscheman and Slotcardaniel have done a "few".

Carrera chips tend to be able to handle some amps, but if you had the magnet still in, especially if it was a car with strong downforce. Bruce and others will know better, but I have seen lots of slot.it cars chipped for Carrera. Maybe they were magless? I dunno.
For SSD , I prefer a slot.it chip, but they don't make one for Carrera.

thanks guys,
i use the 30352 Carrera CU and original power supply (plan to update to a Circuit Test PSC-520 in the winter).
the car still has the magnets and stock motor, but I noticed that the Slot It wires are of a thicker gauge then the wires on the chip.
