Default chassis

The chassis is a Penelope Pitlane 'Clubman' which is made over here in the UK. It is designed for smaller cars and provides an excellent performance. I built the 47 for an event I organised for BOAC 500/Guards Trophy cars. It is based on a car that raced in the 1967 BOAC 500. My model won it's class

Default Elan Plus 2 and 1/24

Here is the Cragstan Plus2. Again, not so hot to look at, but it is a factory Lotus slot car.

Also, three of THE most collectible slot cars...Lotus or otherwise. The AutoWorld Brass Lotus. That's not gold paint. The car body is made of brass, as is the suspension, exhaust, etc. The only non brass are the windshield, driver, tires, wheels, axles, motor, guide. It is one of the few vintage slots worth more assembled than mint in box because of the difficulty to assemble. It's riveted and soldered together.

Monogram Lotus 38, complete. I have it's box and inserts, too.

And the Holy Grail of collectible Lotus slot cars, the Scalextric 1/24 scale Lotus 38. Made 1 year only. Rarest of the rare. It's not perfect, but close.

Current market value on those three cars would pay my mortgage for two months.

BTW...in case you're wondering about the track in the pix. It's a one lane track, routed in mdf, I use to test/tune cars to run in the club's racing series. Nearly all of our club tracks (7 +) are routed mdf. The track is mounted on the wall in the garage, and folds up against the wall when not in use so I can actually park the car in the garage.

Considering divesting my vintage slot collection for cash down on 1:1 Lotus # 10...looking at a Stevens bodied Esprit. I'd be selling Cox Chaparral 2E's (mag frame and IFC), Chap 2D, Chap 2, 1/32 and 1/24 Cheetah, Monogram 1/24 Ford GT Roadster, Cox 1/32 and 1/24 Ford GT, Cox Lotus 40 (RTR and kit), Revell Lotus 23, Atlas and K & B 1/24 Lola T70 and a bunch of others.

Hey Everyone

I can tell you that Todd (tlbrace) is not only a really nice guy, but a HUGE Lotus fan! We race in the same club – IHSR (he actually was a founding member), and just like you can count on death and taxes, you can also bet that at each slot event, he'll be running a Lotus of some sort. Plus, he usually arrives in an awesome Lotus' (1:1) to our club events.

Hope to see you this fall... By the way, my track is done!

Mike

I remember when AutoWorld was selling those all brass Lotus'. I could have had all I could buy at the time, but we (fellow racers) decided they were way to heavy for our needs. How foolish were we?

Not sure if your reply is intended for me or the cars in the wonderful collection with photos posted. I JUST got the 56F1 and Lotus 62 from Freddy Fogarty at Electric Dreams a few days ago and haven't gone over and visited my two friends that have awesome routed tracks....my two came rtr and I'll find out soon how well they perform.

I bought a black/gold 1.1 Lotus Europa 1973 JPS Big Valve Twin Cam [Lotus head/Weber Carbs] on a small Ford block after grduating from college. Talk about a "chick magnet"....not the best car to own after one gets married by the way....HaHaHa. But that's what got me "into" Loti.....saw my first one at the US GP in 1965 [I was only 15 and made the long trek with dad to N.Y. from N.C.] a gorgeous slate blue Elan with those beautiful Minilite wheels. I can honestly say that I NEVER got over it!
Never got over seeing Clark, Sir Jack[WHY DOESN'T SCALEXTRIC PUT OUT A TWIN SET WITH SIR JACK & DENNY HULME'S GREEN/GOLD NOSE BRABHAM F1'S??????????? HUGE SELLER THAT WOULD BE!] Gurney's Eagle, Surtees Honda V12, Pedro Rodriguez's Ferrari, G. Hill's beautiful green/orange nose BRM and all my heroes race each other!!!!!!!!!

Hi Todd,

Thanks for posting the pictures of the +2, that is one ugly model! The Brass car is amazing, what a crazy idea, where did you find it? I've read about them in the past but never seen a picture of one, so thanks for posting it.

Thanks,

Pete

While the topic of 1:1 Lotuses is fresh, here is a photo of me aged 16 in 1973. I've hardly changed a bit.

Bought this clean twin cam dual weber '67 Élan with 30k miles and mostly pristine for around $1800. You could get some really great cars back then with money you saved working after school.

About 8 months after this photo and lots of harrowing driving adventures I was struck just behind the driver's door by a drunk driver traveling at speed, shattering the rear end but thankfully not me. Car was pieced back together but my parents condemned it to be sold. Convinced them an xke would be safer being made out of metal and all. Another story.

I never lost the Lotus bug either and do keep a few slot cars of that make around.
eBay clunker

After a little sprucing up:

Joe, we do need to get together and run some old cars

One more while I'm at it:
Nobody seemed to bid on this homely lotus 30 except me

Took some work but became a nice Cox runner. Fixed the roll bar after photo.
I believe I modeled this after Jim Clark's LA Times entry from '65.

Default Awesome Lotus Transformation Marcus

You're right Marcus....we do need to get together at Jim's or Steve's. I'm going by Jim's this Saturday to drop off the Cunningham for painting. I just ordered a PCS complete [motor, gear, wheels, ready to go] adjustable chassis for the CR2 from Sean at Pendle. Jim's giving it his awesome paint job but I'll need to send it to somebody for making/installing body posts...chassis has two screw holes in the rear & one up front.

Pete,

I picked up the AutoWorld brass Lotus on ebay a couple of years ago. They do pop up from time to time. Actually I need to give that one a good polish.

Speaking of ugly Lotus slot cars, the Artin Esprit and Europa in 1/43 scale are pretty bad...the Europa especially so.

There is a brass lotus on ebay right now, ending in a few hours (on 8/25). It's in rather sad partially assembled state, with the next to impossible to find OEM rear wheels missing, no motor, no tires...and it's at $208.00.

Default Pete's Beautiful Elan +2

Hi Pete,
Your Elan +2 is beautiful! That JPS Europa photo you posted looks exactly like the one I owned [big valve twin cam with Weber head]. I really like the red/gold scheme on your +2.
