Looking at the rules for the Fray in Ferndale, I would say no. Rule 9 starts with:

Any flat top and bottom carbon/copper motor brushes are allowed.

"Fray" has gotten to be a sort of generic term for what I would call SS T-Jets. If you are actually planning to attend the Fray at Ferndale you should check their rules. I doubt that many clubs use rules that are exactly the same, so you should check with whaterever group you plan to race with. Most clubs have their rules available online, if you have any questions about those rules you should contact an officer of that club to get the best answers. It is better not to have to make changes to your cars after you get to a race.

ECHORR has the same rule for their SS class. It seams must clubs follow the Fray/ECHORR rules for this class of cars. As Rich says, check with the club you plan to race with for clarification.

I'll try using the slotted brushes in my t-jet to see if it helps any.

whether its legal or not would only matter if I were to win....

I think there are silver in them, too....
