Default voltage

what voltage are you run for track power. I have two 6 amp transformers that were 14 v [one for each track] that I add windings to to bring it up to 20 v and capacitors and a rectiferberdge. it seems like to much.

Most of the newer cars like 19-21 volts (super-G & ...)
older (Aurora) are happy running on 14-19 volts

We run at 18-20 volts, all of the tracks that I run on have aftermarket regulated power supplies. I am not certain exactly what you have done. Once the AC from the transformer is rectified and filtered the voltage will go up by a significant amount. What really matters is the voltage that you get with the cars running. Since your power supply is not regulated the track voltage will change as the load on it changes. Your cars should be driveable at 20 volts if they have good tires. Once you get much over 20 volts the cars could be a handful unless they have a great deal of downforce. If you like to tinker around you can add a variable voltage regulator which will let you adjust the voltage.

Rich, are you running your Tjets/ Tjet ultra-Gs at 18-20volts? and what ohm controller are you using? I'm running Tjets 12volts Ultra-Gs 13.5volts

I run my track at 18.5 volts with everything except for G-jets, which I run at 12 volts. I normally use an electronic controller. If I had to use a resistor controller with T-Jets it would be a 60 ohm, but most people use a 90 ohm and a few use a 120. We don't run Ultra Gs. If you use better tires like slip-on silicone or silicone on sponge you can run higher voltages with no problem.

Is that 18.5 with stock tires? I want to start a club and keep everything stock.

Quite honestly I don't know anyone that runs on stock tires and I get around quite a bit. I suppose that it makes more sense to reduce the voltage than it does to buy new tires for a lot of cars. If you expect to race with many clubs you have to do what they do.
You should be aware that the performance of rubber tires can be improved by using various treatments and that can cause a problem if you are going to hold races. You might forbid using tire treatments, but that can be difficult to enforce.

Thanks, I guess I'll start looking for slip-on silicone tires .

G-Jets at 12.2V. All other cars run at 19.1V FRAY style T-Jets are supposed to run at 20V but my power supplies top out at 19.1. High output, fully regulated and filtered power supplies.

18 to 20 volts I'm going to need a new power supply.
