I had some time this evening so I thought I would begin a car I have had on my shelf for a while.
I'm sure I'm not alone in having a few Airfix kits awaiting some attention and a chassis.
So begins this transformation from inert box of parts to assembled lump of kinetic fun.
I thought I would build this car with the motor in front as I did with the TR-4 and MGB builds.
Here is the chassis:
Since I use a "donor" motor for the drive shaft, I decided to use the "can" as the bearing holder. This worked very well as it alligned the drive shaft perfectly and soldered in place very well. All that was required after being soldered in was to trim the "can"with a dremel.
I built and trimmed the Airfix XKE body and did some preliminary body filler and "test fit" assembled the car to see the stance on track:
As always, any and all comments are more than welcomed.
The Airfix body version looks great as does the Monogram/Revell one.
Do you race both of these cars and if so, which do you prefer?
Thanks again for your post!
John
I can trutfully say the recent build has it waaaay over the old car. The Airfix car was done before I knew what I was doing... It has succumbed to the ravages of time.

I have a model kit coupe on the workbench, yet to be finished. I am thinking brass is the way to go with that as well. I haven't made one in brass in a while.
I got quite a bit done on the BRG E-type.
I added the interior, front and rear lights and the windscreen.
I managed to also paint the chrome bits on the body, panel lines, add numbers, sponsors and headlight tape.
Here it is so far:
