Default The Start/Stop Light Question

Ok so let's say you've got an SCX Digital system.

If you have PCLC or it's weak-sister RMS then you really have no need. But perhaps you don't, in which case you might prefer something more than pushing the start button and shouting "GO!".

So what do you think a Start/Stop light should do?

Let us see if expectations can match up with reality.

Default Start light suggestions.

Maybe a add on to the system, a electrical plug or battery operated. Just something to start the race with no false starts. Sound effects of cars would be nice, too.

What is such an accessory capable of? Would you be able to control car power in any way? Would you be able to impose a penalty of some kind? Would you be able to at least synchronize the lights to a race countdown of some kind? I've only ever driven SCXD, never "run the show" so I don't know what it's capable of. Ideally, a start/stop light accessory would take the form of a light bridge like on a real race track, with two rows of red lights that light up (or go out) in sequence, followed by green lights for the race start. If this can be synchronized with whatever happens on the pit box, or with lap counting/timing accessories, or whatever accessory provides the racing, then that would be even better.

Default Red Light Green light

I have Digital track and often thought how neat it would be if you could have a Red hold Light ,till a Green appeared and the cars where allowed to go. With my track i have wired in the Green light to come on after the Console finishes it's count down. It works well because there is no power to the rails till the count down is fiinshed. Nobody can jump the light (false srart) but i'm still working on the red light thing. Robert

Of course the start/stop light must be synchronize with the Central Unit start button.
The time lapse between the count of red lights must be always fixed and the lapse between the last red and the green light must be random.

I will also add a digital display near the light showing the number of the car that has caused the false start (this is easy to implement just by looking if some of the players have pressed the trigger before the green light).

We already have some of these features (and a few more) implemented on a hand made start/stop system prepared by a colleague (javieryaki) and it is completely integrated with its RMS but I think it would be a nice idea to have this available in a professional and standalone solution.

Default start light

A standalone unit would be fine if you can't connect it to the control unit. Those of us that don't use the pc software, this would be exactly what we need to start the race.

Howdy all. I have a working unit. Sort of... I need to do a little system testing and am hoping someone has an extra lap counter or chrono I could acquire for a few days. Apparently shops aren't exactly well stocked with these items.

And Monte, what happened to yours?

Good question. Since I use PCLC I haven't had those things for years. Regardless I need to see what happens when the power goes out.

Another wish for this start light system:

As for implementing some the features I have commented on my previous message (start race synchronization with the start/stop button at the central unit; false start detection, etc) it is necessary to build a communication data interface with the track. What about providing an addtional USB-A output of this interface for connecting it to a PC running any RMS system?

I think it needs to be based around the arduino board some of the scaly community are working with to develop new features.

With what you know about hand controllers, PCLC , and Ardunio, I reckon you could do a pace car with manual overide for pit stops.
