Default Drivers Wanted Sun, Jun. 2nd. 2013 slot.it shootout round 3

I'll post more details tomorrow, but if anyone is interested in driving each of the 24 2013 slot.it shootout cars, mark this Sunday, June 2nd, in your calendar. (Time TBA. Ron?)

What is it?

24 cars, each running 12 minutes at 12 volts. Although it's a race, it's an endurance race that spans 11 tracks in countries across the globe, so although going fast is nice, staying in the lane is much appreciated by the builders.

If you are available, and you must be able to stay for the entire run (approx. 2 or so hours), then let me know on this thread. Also, and this is key, although the cars switch lanes, the drivers don't.

I will have the cars out Friday night to test, and then we run round 3 on Sunday!

Thanks Tim. Would love to see you come out and run. Bring Bill too if he can remember where Race Haven is!

Some more info for you all....

Official rules for hosts are at; http://www.slotcarillustrated.com/po...ad.php?t=57691

But in a nutshell, these are the guidelines to follow when we host the 3rd round of the shootout this coming Sunday at Race Haven.

Track will be set at 12 volts.

Testing
I will test each car for about a minute, about 9 laps, at Race Haven on Friday night. I will make notes of quickest lap and how each car handles. Unfortunately nobody else may drive the cars at this time.

Race Day
Each of the 24 cars must run a total of 12 minutes.

“Each lane is to have an allocated driver who will run each car in that lane for the same amount of time”

How many lanes we use and how many drivers, and if heats need to be split to accommodate more than 5 drivers, will be determined on Sunday once we know who is in attendance.

I will make note of each cars handling characteristics ahead of each heat.

As we are driving other peoples cars, let’s run them to just below the best of our abilities so that "offs" will be kept to a minimum.

“Drivers are supposed to get the best out of the car, not drive it like they stole it. It is about distance not outright speed.”

Normal marshaling procedures if we have enough marshals. Track calls only as required.

The best guideline though is; HAVE FUN.

Testing done. For more on the cars and their characteristics, and some pictures, check out the link here; http://www.slotcarillustrated.com/po...ad.php?t=71860

Sunday's event begins at 1 when the track will open for practice. (No practicing with the shootout cars). So bring some of your cars to warm up the track and your skills. Shootout race will begin at 2 following a brief drivers meeting.

Plan is for Ron to run the computer. Drivers include myself, Joe Guts, Steve, Glen, and Tim if he comes out. If anyone else is interested let me know.

We should be done around 3:30.

If we run all 5 lanes, heat length will be 2:24 (144 x 5 = 720 or 12 minutes). If 4 lanes, then each heat will be 3 minutes long.
