Default Race results for 3/28/11

8 drivers came, enabling us to run with all but one turn marshalled, with Autumn's help on
the button - thanks.

Ron (on the mend from surgery) stopped in. He looks good, and says he is coming along and
doing well. Great news!
Ron also said he was going to give all of our backsides a break for a
week or two, while he recuperates. How considerate of him - ha!

Chris made the 80 mile trip from Honeoye Falls, and Steve was the lone south towns racer.
Welcome to new racer (at Ace): Warren.

Josh sold his "stable" of cars, with most going to Warren & Will. His Ferrari 312 must be
good - C-Bill was attempting to strike a deal with it's new owner (Will).

DP

Warren was inadvertantly left off the drivers list - our appologies!
Whew - what a way to treat a new driver. Sorry.

Yellow Dog put up his fast Sun Trust Dallara. Al entered his almost-as-fast Dallara.
The rest of us filled out the field with our Riley's.

In a close race, Yellow Dog won by .65 lap. Congratulations Dan.
Positions 2 - 4 were separated by only .40 lap. That's close.
C-Bill (gold & black), and Chris (silver bullet) did very well with their Riley's.

1.Yellow Dog, 59.25 laps
2.Tom, 58.60
3.Al, 58.30
4.C-Bill, 58.20
5.Chris, 56.70
6.Steve, 55.25
7.Will, 52.60

fast laps:
yellow, Yellow Dog 11.918 seconds
black, Yellow Dog 11.892
white, C-Bill 11.950
red, Yellow Dog 12.158

Can Am

Al entered his Fly Ford GT 40, collectors edition body and all! The first Fly Ford GT 40 to be
run here. Chris put up his Monogram Chaparral / home made plastic chassis / Slot-It pod -
nice job! The rest of the field was all Slot-It: 1 Chaparral, 2 Ferrari 312's, and 3 Alfa's.

With Al's fast Chaparral taking a rest tonight, along with Tom's sometimes quick Chaparral,
the podium possibilities were wide open. Steve & his Chaparral was the pre-race favorite.

Steve's Chaparral came off of the line fast in the first heat, and he never looked back
the rest of that heat, (on yellow), setting the mark for the rest of the field.
Al first outing with his Fly Ford GT 40 ended up with a podium finish - nice.
Chris' custom "hybrid" Chaparral had a very good run, for it's first race at Ace.
Will got in the groove with his Ferrari 312, and put down some very good laps - nice job.
Warren did a nice job of keeping his car on the track, for his first no magnet race at Ace.

Steve finished his last 3 heats continuing the fast pace he started with; and ended up
finishing second by just .07 lap - what a finish. Positions 3 - 6 finished within .45 lap of
one another, that's close racing.

1.Tom, 58.02 laps
2.Steve, 57.95
3.Al, 56.65
4.Yellow Dog, 56.60
5.C-Bill, 56.35
6.Chris, 56.20
7.Will, 54.90
8.Warren, 47.50

fast laps:
yellow, 11.989 seconds All by Steve!
black, 11.984
white, 12.153
red, 12.344

GT

1 Ferrari F40, 2 McClaren's, and 4 Nissan's were on the starting grid.
Al's Ferrari, Yellow Dog's McClaren, and Chris' Nissan were perhaps the pre-race favorites,
based on past performance, and practice today.

It was a fairly fast and CLOSE race!
Knowing exactly what he had to do, Al put on a furious charge during the last heat, doing about 15.5 laps , and just came up .15 lap short (for third place). Nice try - great last heat driving.
Yellow Dog also knew what he had to beat, and did it! He won by about 2 inches over the second place car. Congratulations Dan.
The top 3 finishers were within .15 lap of one another, and the top 4 finishers were within
.50 lap of one another. Close racing!

1.Yellow Dog, 60.05 laps by 2 inches
2.Tom, 60.05
3.Al, 59.90
4.Chris, 59.55
5.Will, 53.85
6.Warren, 47.50
7.Steve, 44.85 (electrical problems - wire)

fast laps:
yellow, 11.485 seconds All by Al!
black, 11.551
white, 11.484
red, 11.732

Thanks to all the drivers who came. Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time.
Thanks also to the people filling in for Ron, so the shop stays open (Bob, Dan, Butch,
Mike, etc.).

Next Monday (4/4) is an even numbered day of the month, so the third race will be GT's
(again).

Tom

2. 59.90 laps, Al 3/21/11
3. 59.85 laps, Yellow Dog, 3/7/11

Congratulations to all!

Note:
Much work was done, in April 2011, on improving electrical connectivity between track
pieces in various areas of the track.
Also, beginning 4/18/11, Classic Super Tires are allowed in all classes.
For track records before electrical connectivity improvements, and the (increased) use of
Super Tires, see post #121 (on page 9) of this thread.

Default race results for Monday, 4/18/11

Nine drivers came, enabling us to run marshalled races.

Ron is definately feeling better / good! He was back to his usual
"I'm going to kick some a--" during warm-ups.

Dan has spend a lot of time / effort over the past couple of weeks, working on
improving the connections in various areas of the track. "More power" said Tim 'the
toolman' Taylor, in the old TV series. Thanks Dan!

Practice sessions showed the track power to be definately more consistant / improved.

A separate post will follow, with this information:
Ron is having trouble getting adequate supplies of S2 tires (both small & large hub size),
and the last batch of small hub S2's had many tires that were obviously NOT S2 silicon
compound.
So... Beginning tonight, Classic Super Tires will be allowed to be run on all series of cars
raced with no magnets, at Ace Hobby.
DP's: # 1408, 1407, & 1410 (large hub super tires).
Can Am's: # 1400 through 1405 (small hub super tires).
GT's: super tires have been allowed in this class, with large hub # 1408 being the most
common. # 1407, 1410, and 1003 also fit.
C2's: # 1400 through 1405 (small hub super tires).

Preliminary testing has shown a reduction of lap times using super tires.

DP

The field was raring to go, most equipped with # 1408 super tires.

It was a fast, close race. The top five were within 2.25 laps of one another.
Yellow Dog took the win by .05 lap over Ron. Congratulations Dan.
My butt is starting to hurt, already - ha!
Dan & Ron set the new #1 and #2 lap records for DP's!

1.Yellow Dog, 61.55 laps
2.Ron, 61.50
3.Tom, 60.45
4.Al, 59.65
5.C-Bill, 59.30
6.Chris, 58.90
7.Thomas, 56.90
8.Will, 55.85
9.Steve, 55.65

fast laps:
yellow, 11.296 seconds, Yellow Dog
black, 11.332, Yellow Dog
white: 11.411, Tom
red, 11.645, Ron

Cam Am

With some of the field changing over to super tires, an unexpected thing happened.
The class requires a minimum weight of 70 gms. We found out that a pair of super
tires weigh almost 1 gram less than S2's. Less than anyone would have guessed.
Some were forced to hurriedly add weight, or change cars, to "make weight".

One Ferrari 312, one Alfa, & three Chaparrals took on the "new kids on the block",
four Ford GT40's. Hell, even Ron did a nice "re-paint", and is running a GT40.
Tom's GT40 broke at the guide support during practice (hope this was a rare occurance).

It was another fast, close race. Again first and second were separated by only .05 lap,
with Al's GT40 just edging out Yellow Dog's Chaparral. Congratulations Al.
Al & Dan set the new #1 and #2 lap records for Can Am's.
Third thru sixth all had 59 + laps! GT40's took 1st, 3rd, & 4th, with Chaparral's in 2nd, & 5th.
Eight cars had 58 laps, or more.

1.Al, 60.85 laps
2.Yellow Dog, 60.80
3.Ron, 59.95
4.Chris, 59.70
5.C-Bill, 59.35
6.Tom, 59.05
7.Steve, 58.55
8.Thomas, 58.20
9.Will, 55.10

fast laps:
yellow, C-Bill 11.452 seconds
black, C-Bill 11.534
white, Yellow Dog 11.487
red, C-Bill 11.691

GT

A mixed field of Nissan's, McClarens, and a Ferrari F40 took the flag.
It was another fast, close race. Al set the stage, finishing earlier, with 61.25 laps.
Yellow Dog and Tom were in the final heat, each with a possibility of catching Al.
In the end, all 3 finished within 3 feet of one another, all with 61.25 laps. Yellow Dog
was a foot in front of Tom, for the win, with Al less than 2 feet back. What a finish!
Congratulations Dan. All 3 set the new #3 fast lap record for GT's. Chris was just .65 lap
back, in fourth.

1.Yellow Dog, 61.25 laps (by a foot)
2.Tom, 61.25 (by 2 feet)
3.Al, 61.25
4.Chris, 59.60
5.Thomas 56.70
6.Will, 56.10
7.Steve, 55.65
8.Ron, 55.40

fast laps:
yellow, Al 11.049 seconds !!
black, Al 11.298
white, Tom 11.075
yellow, Al 11.402

Whew! What a night of racing!
The improvements Dan has been doing on the track really showed!
Super tires helped, as did improving driving skills.
A winning time last fall, is now good for a 7th or 8th place finish.

Many / most drivers had personal best races. Congratulations!
Will is really starting to get "the hang" of this no magnet racing stuff. Good job, Will.
Chris is getting the Ace Hobby track down pat, and is right there with "the locals".
Thomas is also raising the level of his (already good) driving, to match the fast cars
he is building.

Ron's 2st, 3rd, and 8th place finish put him in a good position to kick a lot of butts tonight.
I know that mine is a little sore. I started to feel better right at the end of the GT race - ha!

Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time.
Thanks to those drivers who came to race.

Next Monday (4/25) is an odd numbered day of the month, so the third race will be C2's.

Tom

Default Classic Super Tires now allowed in all classes

Ron is having trouble getting adequate supplies of S2 tires (both small & large hub size),
and the last batch of small hub S2's had many tires that were obviously NOT S2 silicon
compound. There has been some off and on supply problems with S2's since last fall.
We love you "Slot-It", (however we need tires to race with).

So...

Beginning 4/18/11, Classic Super Tires will be allowed to be run on all series of cars
raced with no magnets, at Ace Hobby.
This announcement was made before racing began.

DP's: # 1408, 1407, & 1410 (large hub super tires).
Can Am's: # 1400 through 1405 (small hub super tires).
GT's: super tires have always been allowed in this class, with large hub # 1408
being the most common. # 1407, 1410, (and 1003) also fit.
C2's: # 1400 through 1405 (small hub super tires).

S2's are still allowed, if you choose.

Default Race results for Monday, 4/25/11

Ten drivers came, enabling us to run marshalled races.

Ron was full of his usual talk, something about kicking something or another.

DP

Yellow Dog's Sun Trust car was on the grid, so chances were good that the rest of us would
just be giving him something to drive around.
In a fast race, Yellow Dog won going away, while setting a new lap record for the class.
Congratulations Dan. Eight drivers had over 58.55 laps - nice job.

1.Yellow Dog, 62.05 laps class record
2.Tom, 61.15

black, 11.033
white, 10.842
red, 11.097

Slot-It Group C2

Nine cars took the flag. As Russ said, more and more cars are not the "usual" Porsche
956's. There were 4 Porsche 956's, 2 Mazda's, 2 Jaguar's, and 1 Sauber.

A practice session last Friday, where Yellow Dog and Ron were getting some very quick
lap times, was talked about before the race. Practice today did not yield such quick times.

In a fast race, Al finished in second place by .90 lap to Yellow Dog. "The Dog" set a new
lap record for the class. Congratulations Dan.
Positions 2 - 6 were separated by only .50 lap. Wow, that's close!

A good night of racing was had by all.
Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time, and thanks to the drivers who came.

Next Monday (5/2) is an even numbered day of the month, so the third race will be GT's.

Default Race results for Monday, 5/2/11

11 drivers came, enabling us to have fully marshalled races.

Thomas came from the North(west), Russ & Steve from the South, & Chris from the East.
Mr. Dunlop & Mr. Goodyear let their "go to" employee out of the factory so he could attend.
After a four month hiatus, welcome back Gary!

Well, practice times looked pretty good, so the stage was set for a night of fast racing.
A certain Local Hobby Shop owner was repeatedly talking about kicking something or
another.

Nick, the owner of "Super Tires", funded a prize structure for the next 4 Mondays:
The winner's name, from each class, goes in to a drawing (3 names each week).
The name "drawn from the hat" gets a $10 gift certificate.
If one driver wins all 3 races, he will receive a $20 gift certificate. Thanks Nick!

DP

11 cars took to the starting grid. With Yellow Dog's Sun Trust on the line, we all new the
probable outcome.

Yellow Dog took the win over 2nd place finisher C-Bill by 1 full lap, setting the new total
lap record for the class. Congratulations Dan.
The rest of the pack was .95 lap back from C-Bill, with positions 3 - 8 all within 1.1 lap
of one another.

1.Yellow Dog, 62.25 laps (new class record)
2.C-Bill, 61.25
3.Ron, 60.30
4.Russ, 59.85 (by lap times)
5.Gary, 59.85
6.Chris, 59.70
7.Tom, 58.50
8.Thomas, 58.20
9.Will, 55.50
10.Al, 54.25 (electrical problems)
11.Steve, 53.45

fast laps:
yellow, Russ 11.260 seconds
black, Yellow Dog 11.325
white, Yellow Dog 11.186
red, Yellow Dog 11.461

Can Am

Most of the entries were the new Slot-It Ford GT40. The familliar Fly 917 Porsche was on
the grid at the hand of it's new owner. Russ put up a "hybrid" Scalextric Ford GT, with a
Slot-It pod.
After the "clinic" put on by Russ last week (with the Fly Porsche 917), we all thought that C-Bill
should do well with the car. Instead, C-Bill put on his own, improved version of "Slot Car
Racing 101" with the Fly; finishing a full three laps ahead of 2nd place (Ron), and setting
a new total lap record . Congratulations Bill.
Positions 2 - 6 were within 1.5 laps of one another, for close racing to determine the rest
of the podium.

1.C-Bill, 63.85 laps (new class record)
2.Ron, 60.85
3.Yellow Dog, 60.45
4.Tom, 59.85
5.Russ, 59.70
6.Chris, 59.25
7.Al, 58.50
8.Gary, 57.80
9.Thomas, 57.05
10.Steve, 56.20
11.Will, 52.90

fast laps:
yellow, 10.695 seconds All by C-Bill.
black, 10.841
white, 10.829
red, 11.012

GT

A field reduced to 7 drivers took the grid, and thanks to Billy's help "on the button", we
were able to run a mostly marshalled race - thanks Billy!

3 Nissans, 3 Ferrari F40s, & one McClaren took the starting flag.
In a fast, close race, the top 3 finishers were within .50 lap of one another.
All of the drivers had 58.50 laps, or more!
Yellow Dog won, setting a new total lap record for the class. Congratulations Dan.

1.Yellow Dog, 62.20 laps (new class record)
2.Al, 61.80
3.Tom, 61.70
4.Russ, 60.25
5.Ron, 60.10
6.Chris, 60.05
7.Thomas, 58.50

fast laps:
yellow, Al 11.785 seconds
black, Al 11.623
white, Russ 11.044
red, Russ 11.428

Thanks to Ron, at Ace Hobby, for the track time; and thanks to the drivers who came.

The winner of this week's "prize" drawing was: Yellow Dog. Congratulations.

See Post # 160, on page 11 of this thread, for the updated "Class Lap Records".

Next Monday (5/9) is an odd numbered day of the month, so the third race will be Group C2's.

Tom

It's the Super Tires. " You bring the power, we got the grip!"

Default Race results for Monday, 5/9/11

8 drivers came, and with Billy's help on the button (thanks Billy!) we had marshalled races.

Ron must have had some good practice laps since last Monday, since there was an increased
amount of his "I'm gonna kick some a--" talk. Time will tell.

DP

This has been Yellow Dog's race for many weeks, the rest of us provide cars for him to pass.
Russ and C-Bill have stepped up their "DP programs" recently. Would this change the outcome?

In a fast (new lap record being set) race, C-Bill & Russ had a very good run. However, it
was Yellow Dog at the top of the podium after the checkered flag. Congratulations Dan.
Five drivers had over 60 laps!

1.Yellow Dog, 62.30 laps (New class lap record)
2.Russ, 61.50
3.C-Bill, 61.30
4.Tom, 60.80
5.Ron, 60.50 (Not too many butts kicked in this race...)
6.Al, 58.55
7.Chris, 58.10
8.Steve, 57.70

fast laps:
yellow, Russ 11.248 seconds
black, Yellow Dog 11.336
white, Russ 11.222
red, Yellow Dog, 11.434

Can Am

For the last few weeks, this race has been dominated by cars "built by Russ, at Big Tree
Speedway", and owned by Russ, or by C-Bill. Would the Chaparral's of Al & Steve; or the
GT 40's of Ron, Yellow Dog, & Tom; or even the NSR GT 40 of Chris be any competition?

The answer is an emphatic "NO". Russ' newest Can Am creation (Scalextric GT 40 body &
chassis, with a hand fitted Slot-It pod) had a very good run in it's second outing.
C-Bill's Fly Porsche 917 won going away, setting a new class lap record. Congratulations
Bill.

1.C-Bill, 64.10 laps (New class lap record)
2.Russ, 61.90
3.Tom, 60.30
4.Al, 59.85
5.Yellow Dog, 59.25
6.Ron, 59.02 (Not too many butts kicked in this race, either.)
7.Chris, 58.50
8.Steve, 56.45

fast laps:
yellow, 10.804 seconds All by C-Bill. Whew!
black, 10,869
white, 10.786
red, 10.932

Slot-It Group C2

This class has traditionally lagged behind the other classes, in total laps completed, etc..
This is somewhat surprising, considering this is the only class allowed to have any crown gear /
ratio. Of course, it is also the only class where off set pods are NOT used (stock, "neutral"
pods, only). Maybe that is the reason?

It was a mixed field, with 2 Mazda's, 2 Jaguar's, and 3 Porsche 956's.
Al's "New Man" 956 was very fast, however it was out of the slot a lot tonight.
Al may have been trying to imitate Russ' driving style of coming "off"
some, but having enough speed to make up for it - ha!.

Chris had a very good run with his Jaguar - nice job!

In a fast, close race, the top 3 finishers were within .30 lap of one another, and the top
5 were within 1.0 lap of one another. Yellow Dog, Tom, & Al put up a good fight, but in
the end .................................................. .................................................. ........
Sorry, technical data keeping difficulties prevent me from finishing this report.

Just kidding! Actually, "Mr. I'm gonna kick some a--" (Ron) won, while completing the
second most number of laps in the class. Congratulations Ron.

1.Ron, 61.40 laps (Kicked all of our butts...)
2.Tom, 61.25
3.Yellow Dog, 61.10
4.Al, 60.90
5.Chris, 60.40
6.Russ, 59.50
7.Steve, 57.50

fast laps:
yellow, Russ 11.301 seconds
black, Al 11.305
white, Al 11.225
red, Al 11.421

Thanks to Ron at Ace Hobby for the track time, and thanks to the racers who came.

This was week 2 (of 4) of the Super Tires sponsored prize drawing (thanks Nick !).
The race winner's names went into a hat for a $10 drawing. Ron excused himself from the drawing, and put in the second place driver's name in his place.
This week's winner of a $10 gift certificate (courtesy of Super Tires) was - Tom.

Observation: Many of the GT 40's that have been race tested / entered (Tom, Al, Yellow Dog) act like they have something "dragging or rubbing". Ron's GT 40 may be the exception.
Yellow Dog and Tom commented that it felt as though something was holding the car back, etc.. No one has found any reason for this, after repeated looking / tweaking / and so on.
???

Next Monday (5/16) is an even numbered day of the month, so the third race will be GT's.

Tom
