Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you. In the past, so many guys have reported similar problems, but there's never been a common thread (that we could see, anyway).
Is it possible that when they apply their tire decals, they're using a clearcoat that breaks down this type of rubber? They've been changing their rubber compound, but maybe not their clearcoat.
Soft plastic/rubber compounds are notorious in the plastic model kit industry for being unstable. I have static model of cars and tanks in which flexible tires or tracks, in contact with hard styrene wheels, have caused the styrene wheels themselves to ooze goo. Sometimes it takes 40 years of shelf-sitting for the reaction to become visible. In other cases, just a year or so. None of these are working models and none have had tires or tracks trued or sanded. Some have had time in hot sunlight, some not. Brands include AMT, Airfix, and a company whose name I cannot transcribe, as it is in Cyrillic. These three brands are notable because each was manufactured in a different nation, years ago: USA, Great Britain, and Russia.
It is very difficult for a manufacturer to anticipate these problems because they only show up years after a product has been sold, and only in a proportion of a production run. Normal quality control (inspection at the production location) cannot catch it. I suspect it has more to do with the mix of plastic compounds, impurities, or molding temperatures rather than storage conditions, but who knows, really?
Well, I had a spare set of Carrera, stock, Nissan GT-R rears (from a yellow Carrera Nissan GT-R) that I put on my Calsonic car and now those are melting...!
And this is with no trueing or sanding them at all.
On another note; I finally had to finally bite the bullet and buy aftermarket urethanes for my 599xx. At least the car is useable again...
Same thing here. My Calsonic GTR, both front tires seemed to melt away. I was running silicones on the rear so I went to retrieve the rears to replace the bad fronts and guess what?
The rears were never run and turned to goo.
Same with 2 599's that I have.
I had a heck of a time finding replacements for the 599's but the GTR tires were not a problem.
My opinion is that the mix used when they were molded was unstable.

It was the Black Label M20 McLaren for me. Front tire became a gumball. I'm waiting to see if it hits any of the other CanAms purchased around the ame time.
What tires did you get for the front? My 599xx tires are completely shot.

I've had the same thing happen with cars from Monogram, MRRC, Carrera and Fly. Some of the affected cars I've had less than a year. I keep my runners on white pine shelves and thought that resin in the wood was reacting with the tires but I've seen the same thing happen on cars that have never been removed from their display cases and stored in total darkness in an environmentally controlled room.

I also have a car with one soft and melting wheel
One of the COT NASCARs that I race and just left in my race box over the summer (in a cool room)
7 other cars in the same box (2 other NASCARs) and only one melted wheel (so far anyway)
Out of the 100 cars I have, I've had this problem with 10 cars so far (8 Carrera's and 2 Monogram's). I only have 15 Carrera's so basically 8 of the 15 of them have useless gummy tires. Kind of upsetting
urgh,,,, i didn't even think about this but i have some old cars that i got, they were sitting on a store shelf for years a few of the cars are very loose on the track I checked the tires and they were hard i thought that just how they were, but the new cars i bought the tires were soft.
it didn't even occur to me that this issue with the tires still existed, i mean i have cars 40 years old that have problems with rotted tires but ones from the last 5 years have it too.... That isn't good because i now have 8 cars and at least 4 of the cars have grip issues, and the tires are not soft
