Default SCX Proxy IROC at Summit Speedway

After much discussion back and forth with Dave Kennedy he sent our local club four cars to test drive and run in an IROC race on our normal Monday night club race at Summit Speedway in Fort Wayne Indiana. We had ten guys sign up to race on Monday with varying levels of experiance and age. The track is an 88 foot four lane Carrera roadcourse with a 30 amp regulated power supply set at 12 volts and has scoring down to the thousandth. We have been competing there for the last 5 years.

The cars all were ran as they came from Dave other than taking the magnets out of them. He had prepped them before they were shipped to us. The four cars were the UPS Porsche, a Ferrari 599, an Audi R10 and the Peugeot 908 HDI and they were all equiped with the RX42B motors. The two LMP cars were upgraded with alumunium rear wheels and all the cars were equipped with Slot It S1 tires on the rear.

The cars were all put out for warmups for everyone to try. Some of the cars were putting in some very respectable lap times much to everyones suprise. A few guys asked if they could keep em. .

We set up the cars to run the lanes they were closest to color wise with the Ferrari on the Red inside lane, The Porsche next to it on the Yellow lane. The Audi on the Blue lane and the Peugeot on the outside White lane where it seemed to run the best. After each driver got to run each car for three minutes on each lane the scores were tabulated and there were some interesting results.

The Peugeot had Ron run 23.3 laps as the most for that lane/car and he ran the fastest lap time also with a respectable7.676.

The Audi had Ken aka yours truly run 23.5 laps as the most for that lane/car and I ran the fastest lap time with a competive 7.465 lap time. This car had five drivers of all skill levels run 22.6 or 22.7 laps for a very consistant and easy car to run.

The Porsche being the narrowest and tallest car in the field was more of a handfull and laps and times showed it. Chad who has only been racing with us for the last few months pulled out the most laps with a 21.8 and Ron had the best lap time of 7.995. This car was zippier than all the other cars on acceleration and was a fun car to run but would tip out of the slot if you pushed it in the corners.

The Ferrari in the Red lane which is the tightest and hardest lane to run gave us the biggest suprise. Ken ran the most laps with this car and the most laps of any car with a 23.6. Sean another one of the new guys ran the fastest lap time for that car with a 7.677 which was .001 second slower than the Pug!!!!

Overall Ken with 91.2 laps Ron with 91 laps and Sean with 88.7 laps, fourth was Bob with 88.4 laps.

Overall we had a good time and there was some interest in purchasing the SCX cars for us to compete with. The usual little problems did show up though; the lights on the Porsche worked when I tested it at home but never came on at Summit. The Peugeot had the lights when it first started out but lost one headlight the the rest of the lights went out. There were no problem with the cars running for the constant 2 hours of competion other than messed up braids from coming out of the slot. One last note was the Pug ran up against one of the Scaley Pugs and outran it.

Thanks Dave for the chance to try these cars out. I think you might have changed some minds. Ken

Here are some photos. . . . .
