Default Carrera Firebird Trans Am (Smokey and the Bandit)

I realize this was supposedly just released yesterday, but has anyone laid eyes on it? I'm wondering if it really looks well done, or just like a toy.

From a visual point of view, Carrera does do cars nicely - how it runs is another thing entirely.

My main complaint with older Carrera bodies especially is the cutlines, they're consistently too wide and deep.

It'll probably run a little slow compared to some of the other brands, but it'll be quiet and consistent and fairly durable too, is what I'd guess.

Curious to see how they execute the T-tops, how those look.

I don't expect race performance out of a Carrera, though some are pretty fast. But, I do like the selection, and my track is not that big, so rarely do I get a Carrera that so doggy I notice it.

However, if I can run this car, find a Starsky and Hutch car and the General Lee, and a police chase car, I'll be able to yee haw all night long!

Cool RE: Carrera

Well, the one thing I can say about Carrera, once they get sailing down the road (production wise) they are pretty consistant. So I would expect this car to be like just about every other carrera put out for the last 2 or 3 years. Attractive, but heavy slow and solid as a rock!! That's good one even if just to sit on a shelf!

I would hope that the T-tops are removable.

And Why no FROG in the passenger seat?

How about a nice Tractor and trailer to complete the set as well?!!!!

Hello from Germany, hello from Carrera!

Being a frequent reader, I had to reply in this thread for the first time.

Please note:
-it is NOT the 'Smokey and the Bandit' TA!
-it just happens that the driver wears a stetson - by accident.
-the driver DOESN'T feature a moustache. Get out your fineliners.
-nowhere is stated, that it should resemble that particular moviecar - thus, no Frog on the codriver-seat.
-the slotcar DOESN'T feature the confederate license-plate of that moviecar.
-the slotcar DOESN'T feature the scripted 'Bandit' on the door.
It just happens to be the black/gold TA with a driver that likes to wear a cowboy-hat... and red shirt.
Any concerns about licensing fees to Mr. Reynolds are unfounded, we would on the other hand have to pay fees to any celebrity that drove in a cab in a movie, if we would consider that.

-the slotcar WILL feature golden wheels with silver spokes. Picture is just an earlier drawing from December last year, when the model was just in the construction-stage.

Hope this helps!

Please don't ask me about the performance of our cars, that's not my business, but it's noted... again and again.

DUDE You're killing me!!!:ro fl:

Performance!? SO Somebody IS listening!!!!!! Might we expect a rational re-do of the 1/32 monster guide in the future?? Just a hint will do!! Also, a moveable guide on the GO!! cars would be an HUGE improvement!!

Come back SOON!!!

Shorten the length and it will run even better on your Carrera track!!!

Actually, the stock Carrera guide runs O.K. on my routed track, because I routed the slot to accomodate the worst guide on the planet & that would be Carrera! Again, the Carrera's would run better on my track if the guide was 1/4" shorter and on my old Scalextric Sport track they would barely run at all without trimming!! I should think Carrera would find it mildly embarassing that their competitors cars ran better on their track then their own cars; yet their cars will not run on their competitors tracks and that's exactly the case. Awkward No?

I didn't mean to sound like I was bagging on Carrera, I really appreciate how solid their cars are and how well they all seem to run out of the box. They sometimes leave a little dent in the hardwood floor when they fly off the track, but usually survive the accident with no damage.
