I'm with you! If you can't have fun playing w/ toy cars.....then, by all means, stop! Since I started in this hobby, I've had all kind of fun w/ my friends and neighbors (including the kids), playing with my toys! Additionally, I've made new friends and learned new things courtesy of this board!
Some days I do it wrong, but overall, I'm doing it right.
My favorite cars back in, oh, 1958, were Dinky Toys. All metal, nicely finished, with rubber tires on metal rims. They rolled well, and felt good in your hand. Slot cars are an outgrowth of that experience, for me, only now they have tiny motors, and you never have to fill up on gas.
Back at you'se guys. This hobby of ours dovetails nicely with my interest in 1:1 motorsports. I can be team owner, chief mechanic, and driver in my own 1/32 scale racing team.
Now this is more like it! The direction of the slot car industry gladdens me! It has come a long way since my old TYCO set. When I saw a Fly 1/32 scale Porsche a couple of years ago I caught the bug, so to say. So now with slot cars I get the chance to 'drive' that 997 or RSK or 917 or 512 or Lotus 33 or D type or etc... that I might never get the chance to in real life. And with the advent of digital that driving experience can only possibly get better. The only thing that will make me happier is when the garage track is finally done.

I purposely stayed out of the "slot car saddens me" inferno because it is a no win situation IMHO, but this one suits me much better because it more closely resembles my experience the last few years. I have met many new friends locally, several here on this forum and even a few internationally on another forum. Almost everyone has been friendly and helpful, as always there are a few exceptions, but the good FAR outweighth the bad.
The future looks bright to me either digital or analog, just look at all the wonderful new products from the various manufacturers.
Race on brothers (Sorry, been listening to a lot of Hendrix lately)

The penalties for "nerfing" the guy on the lane outside you are somewhat less than if he was in a TVR Tuscan or restored Ferrari 275..................
"But wait there's more" . . . . we also get to persecute the damp dude . . . Life is good
