EXCELLENT NEWS Alan!! Please put me down for one of the DVDs when you get them.
For those who don't know, Michael Keyser (producer of Speed Merchants) is one of the "old school" racers and is an example of living history as part of the team "Toad Hall" with such famous names as Tony Adamowicz(sp?) and many others and his racing involvement continues to this day. He LIVED the racing depicted. I've already got his Speed Merchant photo CDs and have thoroughly enjoyed it (I think there are a million (give or take several hundred thousand) pictures on the disk from the late '60s and early '70s of Can Am cars, sports cars, endurance prototypes, Trans Am, F-1, and the drivers who made them famous. The second disk is images from the 1970's by Bill Oursler and is a great record of road racing in America during that period.
Scottrik
Who'll have HIS "Speed Merchants" sans ads and in "full" sound!! I can't wait!
Scott, you did it right. Tony "A-to-Z" was his nickname. He still has his membership card to the PRDA (Polish Racing Drivers Association) as # 01 (they figured that they could be no more than 99 of them worldwide and anyway could not count past 100), with Auto-World's Oscar Koveleski as Prez.
Tony, often associated to Sam Posey at NART, was a fierce endurance racer and never got the credit he deserves.
Ah to be back in the days of yore when racers had PERSONALITY!! It seems the only "characters" we see anymore are the folks with more mouth than talent (does Eddie Irvine leap to mind?). Ah for the days of Oscar K. hanging BA's out of his motorhome windows, or the SCG editors getting absolutely FLAMED in their letters section for doing a parody article with him that made Poles out to be, shall we say, less than bright (QUITE inaccurately, I hasten to add). Alas...I was born 10 years late.
Alan--any idea when the Speed Merchant videos, etc will be available? Anxious now... It'd be a good one to watch while Auntie Pete is in Billings later this month.
We should have the first delivery in next week.
Going to carry the Steve McQueen Posters and Racing is Life Hats as well.
Waiting anxiously for these items myself.
We will be getting the DVD, Photo CD's and Video's in at the end of this week.
I am in PA at the East Coast Hobby Show till Monday of next week so all orders will ship out next Tuesday.
There was a question re MAC compatibility on the Photo CD, you can still see the photo's but will not see all the folders organizing the pictures into race events.
I was inspired! I watched this on SPEED over the Easter Weekend and it was memory trip extraordinaire! I even taped it but honest Allan, soon I will order the DVD:spin It is a great production that will be cherished by youth in their 50's and 40's and a mandatory history class for younger whipper snappers. My 21 year old is gonna eat this up when we get together to race next weekend!
A must for Car nuts.:drivin
There has to be SOME advantage to living near Mr. 132slotcar.us!!
Watched it over the weekend--it was worth every single penny. Holy Guacamole!! Talk about a wealth of footage of several recent scale (and not so scale :b ) model racing offerings. The L-88 Corvettes, Mirage, Matras, and on and on. Now if SOMEONE would just do a (or series of :banana ) Alfa Tipo 33's we'd be set.
Buy this video--full length and NO COMMERCIALS. HIGHLY recommended.
