  • BigT new to digital carrera 1/32 &1/24 all help wanted.

Well I’m about two months give or take a cpl weeks on this journey. I’m from the best of my knowledge the typical middle aged male slot car enthusiast. In 1969 during a Christmas at my cousins house I was introduced to slot cars as a way to keep a rather hyperactive 5yr old entertained:-) for me it was a life changing experience there was something magical about the ability to control this tiny car all by my self. I was bitten by the bug from there on out. The next Christmas after 365 days of begging I got my first ho track ,needless to say in 1970 December 25 I was the happiest 6 yr old on the planet. I was as obsessed with this track and hobby for the next 6-7 yrs . Then I noticed girls and Bmx and skateboard’s and eventually cars, tracks were boxed up sold off or thrown away. Jump to 1990 a year out of the army I stumbled into a slotcar store slotcar central I think it was called. It was like walking through a time travel portal it was 1969 all over again I was 5 yrs old all over the smell ,the sound the track. With in a yr I had 150’ four lane H.O track taking up half my basement mancave and a growing number of friends. For several yrs a group of 6-12 guys would meet up to casually race ( no race management software) just fun all for bragging rights. We did very little car modification tires and rtr motors parma controllers. Had two boys at the time5 and 2 but I wasn’t done growing the family, two kids later life got busy and the track just sat and my racing buddies were building family’s too. Yrs go by people move I find myself divorced 50/50 custody losing a house. So off I go into the apartment lifestyle 4 kids 50% of the time a single 30 something dad 50% of the time. But I have my track but no room to set it up. Jump 20 yrs forward kids all grown and gone out of the house. My oldest son and a cpl of the old guys from the slotcar days start inquiring about the old track, to there surprise I still have it all. After months of bugging me I go down to my shed and drag it all in the house. Well after a cpl decades in my shed I spend cpl hours cleaning dust and dead spiders and cobwebs off all the track. Then it’s off to YouTube to see what new technology has been created for a old slotcar system. BAM I immediately stumble onto a video bunch of guys racing what looks like 1/32 scale cars first thing I see is 6-8 maybe cars on two lanes? What this make no sense, now I here a computer voice telling drivers you need to pit ? You have damage? You need fuel?, it’s begging to rain you need tires? BAM it’s 1969 all over again on to more YouTube videos. I have discovered 1/32 1/24 digital carrera track. A week or two later 1/32 carrera Dtm furore shows up from Amazon and I’m carpet racing!!!! A month later I’m building 5 4’x8’ tables for the new improved mancave, I,m searching internet daily ,YouTube video research daily stumble onto this forum. Looking for local hobby stores to buy more track looking for other like minded people local and Mrflippant welcomes me to the forums and gives me sources to locate locals. I continue on the forums meet all kinds of helpful people learning faster then my simple mind can comprehend. Dw5555 sharing his love for 1/24 cars bam I bite new rabbit hole, I find frogman new guy on same journey ,lives in same town as my Dad, also a vet. Now carlosinseattle helps me wrap my mind around power supply and hooks me up with a sweet motor for my new1/24 car addiction . What have I done to deserve this awesome life? I couldn’t tell you but I’m not complaining. Thank you all for your help and I look forward to your help and advice in the future as I pursue this new and exciting digital evolution into 1/32&1/24 slotcar track build. Thanks again it’s 1969 all over again!!!!

I'm glad to see what you have been talking about, the stove is you chock point. The good news is the two end area that you can build all the skill driving track. Like me you need track and more track. Based on funding Carrera SC is the most economical site to buy, and their shipping does not kill you. TBD when their inventory gets restocked, 7-10 days has been up there for a month. So what is your next move?

What is Carrera SC? Are you referring to Carreraslots in Minnesota ?

Big T, there are 3 180 degree curves that are 1/30 pieces. I assume these are 1/30 banked? If so, I would recommend using 2/30 and up radius instead. Some of the longer, lower, cars will drag including some 1/24 cars.
If you already have the 1/30 banks, I will say go ahead and use them and see what you think [I used one for quite a few years], but if you haven't purchased them yet you will be happier with 2/30 and up banks.
I would remove the double LC on the right hand side that is in between 2 curve sections, as you will need a little bit of straight track to allow the car to straighten out before going over the LC sensor. [General rule is 1 full straight before an LC, but in slower sections of the track you might only need a 1/3rd track].
It's also a good idea to extend the borders onto the straight at least a section, especially for 1/24 cars.
The LC at the left end of your long straight may need to be moved back 1 straight. That is how I have mine at the end of my 20'+ straight, but I am going into a 2/30 curve. With yours going into a 4/15 curve, you may be alright.
I am assuming that the pit entrance after the first 180 degree curve is just a mess up in the track planner [ otherwise you only have a 1 lane track, Lol]
With the large size of the track, I think you will be able to fudge the alignment of the track to make it work.
Other than those few things, this looks like a fun track that should work well.

Good eye Randy ,yes I was trying to figure out how to create the double pit lane with a double lc in it to avoid congestion and crashing. No banks in this layout but I know 2/30 and up for those . I’m trying to make all turns 2/30 and up or varied staying away from 1/60 one at most. Thanks for the input if you have suggestions on that double pit lane I could use all the help I can get.

This double pit lane with double lane changer used for one entrance works well for me. 96D826F9-1E2D-489F-824B-07F19712135F.jpeg

Exactly what I want!!! Where I’m having the problem is in the autorennebahnplaner when I add pit pieces it moves the single lane pieces up or down out of alignment. I just have to play with it more I guess.

I have been thinking of doing a double plt myself with the purpose of running a pace car. I would suspect you do need double pit to run a pace car so it has somewhere to hide while the race is running. If this setup would work with pace car, will the pace car always go to the first pit? If I am off base here, what is the idea double pit set up so they pace care always knows where to return to?

Yes, pace car will always enter the first entrance to park. Ghost cars will randomly enter the second entrance and stop for a few seconds and make a “pit” then continue. If you speed into the first pit and aren't allowed to fuel you can pull ahead to the second fuel stop and pit there. It all works well and you don't have to make any mods to the double lane changer.

SCM on you tube runs two separate pits for his pace car. One for racers to pit and one for his pace car. The pace car never enters the racer pits. I can’t remember if he motifies the car or track piece.

T, I have never used a track planner so can't help with that, but you have plenty of room on either of the first 2 straight sections.
I have a double pit lane on my track, but it uses a standard analog x track instead of a digital double LC. The big difference between mine and the one Rokon shows is that mine begins with a digital chicane entrance forming a 3rd lane, then the actual pit entrance piece with a fuel sensor track in both lanes immediately after the pitlane entrance and followed by another track piece to lengthen the pit, then the analog x track into the second pit area. If there is a car in the first pit, then you don't use the LC button to actuate the pit entrance, and the x track guides you into the second pit.
I don't use a pace car though, so I don't know if it would work for a pace car. I THINK most guys have a completely separate pit for a pace car. Since I am unfamiliar with pace car operation though, I'm really not sure on that.

thanks king it doesn't appear there's going to be any pit lanes for Carrera for a while anyway. i don't know that ill use a pace car but if i decide to ill have a separate pit for the pace car. finally found some corners in stock today so cpl boxes on the way soon 2-3/30's and 2-4/15's. my layout right know is pretty lame/boring without any real tech section. but one day at a time. i;m not know for my paitence :-)

He moved the sensor on the track, simple step and rotated the chip in the car. You do have to drill two holes, again a simple step. I did it, and it works fine. Since I usually run alone, the Pace car sits there.
