  • Hello Big T,

I think I’ve found the bottom of my rabbit hole, my track revision is complete! I’m limited on space (and funds somewhat) so I think I'm done. I went from a choppy layout (see previous posts) to one that is smoother, more flowing and I think quicker. The revised layout is 2 feet longer overall (from 16 to 18 feet), but the circuit length is only 9 inches shorter. Sometime this week, I plan to time my cars on the new layout.

    • Well I’m about two months give or take a cpl weeks on this journey. I’m from the best of my knowledge the typical middle aged male slot car enthusiast. In 1969 during a Christmas at my cousins house I was introduced to slot cars as a way to keep a rather hyperactive 5yr old entertained:-) for me it was a life changing

      • Bottom of the rabbit hole....I think you need a couple of more straight sections in your pit. All you need is one full straight section and cut it in half right down the center line and that give you 2 sections for the pit. Real easy to do.. You're not done yet buddy. Good job with all the borders.

        • The layout looks really, really good. But as Dave says- the bottom is an illusion. The hole is unbounded.

            • dw5555,

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the pit lane. I have about 20 unused standard straights after my revision, I’ll dedicate some time this weekend to adding to it. Great idea, as I was considering buying single lane pieces to accomplish the same thing.

              b.yingling,

Thanks for the compliment regarding the layout. I must admit another individual here gave me the initial idea as I was having a hard time coming up with a suitable and feasible layout. This one races much better than the choppy 1/60 degree curve only course I came up with.

                  Pit Lane (2).jpg
                  dw5555,

I got up this morning and decided to look at your pit lane suggestion. It took me about 15 minutes to lengthen my existing pit. As you suggested, I took an standard straight, cut it with a box cutter until it snapped apart at the score mark, painted the remaining median marks black and put it all back together and tested it with all my cars, works fine. The only problem I encountered is the “beep” emitted by the track when a car crosses the start/finish line was somehow muted. After figuring out how to turn it back on, I now have a lengthened pit lane at no extra cost. Thanks for the suggestion, I really appreciate it! I suppose I’ll keep digging the rabbit hole as long as it’s a freebie.

                  • Looks better. Anytime you can add length to the pit lane is good. Just watch BigT's videos. His is huge and they still run into each other.

                    • dw5555,

Rabbit Hole question/opinion. I have enough extra straights stored under my table to extend the layout. Do you think it’s to busy/congested in the area of the right side of the table? I’m contemplating making a change, but I don’t like the idea of additional flyovers and based on the table location, marshaling would be a pain in the backside. The upsides 72 foot circuit up from 65, 2 long straights to stretch the legs of the cars, downside, 2 additional flyovers in any configuration. Thoughts, comments.

Hey they hit me i don't hit them :-) but were close to adding that extra pit lane and another five 4X8 tables hoping to end up with 140-150 ft of track. Dw you need to fly out to Portland some week end and race on Saturday night with us. I have a spare room you could stay The Weekend here at TNT motorsports complex(free of Charge of course). Think about it I'M serious!!!!!!

I don't really see a marshalling problem since all the major deslot curves are close to the outside. What I do see is on the right-side you have 3 different track heights with a 1/60 180 degree turn trying a sharp climb to clear the other 2 tracks all within it's 3 feet. Not sure it would work.

                            • Thanks for the opinion. I think I'll leave the layout as is. I don't think I want any additional flyover portions.

DW is right about the multiple track heights on the the right side. You could still do the same layout, but have the diagonal straight in the middle be the elevated section of track.
A general rule is not to put a curve under an elevated section because it may cause sight issues for the braking points, but in this case your curves will not actually be under the elevated section. The 180 degree 1/60 turn on the right would be elevated, but shouldn't be an issue.
The L to R LC in the back might be an issue, because even with the single 4/15 before it you could be carrying a lot of speed when you get to it and cause a deslot. I would try it where it is, and if it is an issue move the LC to the section between the 180 degree turn and the single 4/15.
It looks like a fun track to me
