Carrera 1/24 Repaints/Conversions

Hello all

Thought I would share sone of my latest repaints and a couple of conversions.

The Nissan Calsonic Impul Z is on a Corvette C6R chassis with home made resin inserts.

The Grand Sport had been chopped and had the rear re-worked.

Some pretty sweet work for sure. I'm getting to the point I'd like to try some repaints. Going to have to research the process and materials.

Hi Rokon

Stripping the bodies is the biggest pain - a friend has one of those sonic jewellery cleaners. I put isopropyl alcohol in it and it strips the cars in 10 - 20 mins - sometimes quicker and some cars are stubborn and take a bit longer. They need a clean over with a scourer and tooth brush but generally the paint peels off.

If you don't have one of them then what I used to do is drop them in a couple of ziplock bags with methylated spirits or isopropyl alcohol and let them soak for a day or so. Then scrub them with a scourer and toothbrush (I use and old electric one) takes a bit of time and elbow grease.

Then paint as per normal techniquies - undercoat etc

So what are you using for paints? Can any of the automotive paints made for plastic be used (spray bombs)? Do you clear coat entire body after decals are applied?

I use - Zeropaints in an Airbrush - Vallejo paints in an airbrush - auto paints in a spray can and Tamiya paints in a spray can. Depends on where I can best source the required colour.

Decals come from Pattos Place here in Australia or Indycals in the US. There are also some decal sellers in Europe.

I do a light clear coat before applying the decals and then a couple of light clear coats over the whole car once the decals have dried properly for a day or so.

Thanks for the supply tips.
I have this 1/24 vintage Corvair toy/model I want to convert to a slot car. I found a Carrera digital chassis that I can make work. The body is in pretty good shape other than alot of scuffs and patina. I squint my eyes and envision a Yenko Stinger. Should be a good first paint project.
