  • lane change parts help needed

I have a single lane changer that does not want to return to close all the time. It is out of the warranty period so I opened it up and everything seems to be in good working order except for the plastic piece that that guide keels catch to close the changer. That piece seems to be heavily worn. Can you purchase that part for the lane changer? If so, what is the part number and where might I be able to find it?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Best thing is to buy an old Pro-X lane changer off an auction site or something. I've kept all mine for this reason. The very first D132 LC I bought used had the same problem. Fixed it in 5 minutes with donor Pro-X lane changer.

    Good luck

That sounds like it may be the only remedy. I have searched the web over with no luck for the individual parts.

      Thanks,

If you have any new guides try replacing a guide. I had 3 cars that wouldn't close the l/c and I replaced the guide on them and all was good. The guides can wear too...Just a thought..

If the guides are not the problem ,you may be able to fix the plastic tab/trigger in the track by gluing on a thin layer of plastic or simply building it up with glue.

If it were worn guide keels, wouldn't it affect more than just the one changer?

              32lbking has the right ideas.

I had a pit lane entry switch with the same problem. I used CA glue to build up the plastic lever and it has worked fine since. If the wear is really severe, you could cut a sliver off of a plastic card (credit card kind of plastic) and super glue it to the lever.

Thanks for all the input guys. It does seem to be made worse by a couple of my cars that have worn guide keels as well as some SCX and Scaley conversions because of the thinner guides. This particular lane changer seems to be worn a lot more than the rest.

I plan to use the glue technique on the changer.

                  update

I have finally been able to get the lane change working properly. I did use a slight buildup of CA glue on the plastic return piece that catches the guide keel. That still didn't get it solved completely, so I broke apart another lane change to do the old comparison check. What I found was that electromagnet slider in the bad lane changer was not as smooth as the other so I took it out, cleaned inside with a qtip and put a little INOX lube on it..........super slick now. It also seemed the metal arm was getting up and out of the groove on the plastic piece at the end of the slider causing it to hang occasionally, so I took a paperclip and cut it to length and made the bends to fit in the holes on the support for the metal arm and now it can't slip out.

Put it all back together and it works great now.

Just wanted share in case anyone else has this problem.
