The SCX controllers aren't wired for braking you would need a Parma, scalextric sport or Ninco controller.
I think the third pin for the controllers on the power base may be wired for braking however I haven't seen a plug to fit that socket. so this hasn't been tested.
I just bought a scalextric sport powerbase and transformer and the adapter straights.
the SCX controller that fits the 3 pin plug is the turbo controllers that are sold as a set. They have braking, however the turbo boost button is too easy to press and results in a full power surge that can result in a horrendus crash!
The SCX Pro controller is wired for brakes and has interchangeable resistors for 20 or 45 ohms. It's not the best I've ever used by any means, but it's really not a bad controller for about $40.
