    Are the ‘42’ motors interchangeable? I have one labeled 42B and one that just says 42. Thanks.

    I think so, but wait for someone else to post who knows more than me. Shouldn't take long ...

      Yes. B version is the faster of the two.

        Yes they are. The 42B has a tiny touch more power but I still find them rather weak even compared to stock Scaley & Fly motors. If you are looking for more power the RX-4H has a lot more oomph. I must also say that I have never enjoyed the power delivery of ANY of the SCX motors though.

        Edit: just to note while the 42 and 42B is a straight swop the RX-4H does not have the spring conductors so it requires some work to fit it

          My RX-4H powered SCX Pro COT finished 3rd in the last round of the Forums Cup Proxy. Ray Metz aka 34ever1 has also been successful with this motor in past Forums Cup Proxies

            I haven't bought a SCX car in a long time, but I thought that the "newer" 42B motors with the red labeling were the better motors.

            I have made the RX-4H swap with the 42/42b motors. I have just exchanged the end bells by pulling the brushes out and then opening the two end tabs. The RX-4H is some times a handful of a motor, more speed and less braking. It does really wake up a GT car.

              I just soldered wire from the motor terminals to the copper strip: don't have to mess with the motor itself.

                Thanks for the info. I installed the 42B and (thankfully) the car has a little more life.

                  It's also a good idea to clean those open can type of motors every now and then. They can collect a lot of tire dust and such over time. And if they have been over lubricated, they'll be slower than normal. A bath in 91% rubbing alcohol is what I always did, then lubricate very sparingly. You can also do this with brand new motors to seat the brushes and reduce scoring. The small bits of brush get carried away from the brushes instead of staying on them like they would when ran dry.

                  Yes, alcohol is flammable, but I have used this procedure for years on more motors than i can count. Here is the trick to doing it without a possible fire: ONLY APPLY POWER TO THE MOTOR WHILE THE MOTOR IS SUBMERGED.

                    If you're after more speed then a Parma 16D armature will fit without any modifications. Good for 40,000 rpm+ but a bit hard to disguise in club racing when you can spin the wheels all the way down a 40 foot straight.

                      We used to use Parma Homeset arm in the SCX cars! From memory I think they were around 20,000.

                        All the 42 motors have the same motor "can" size.
                        The A (or motors without a letter after their number) means about 14k I think (it's been a while)
                        B motors about 18k
                        H motor is the faster motor about 26k I think.
