Thanks Bart. It just means I have one more motor to beat to death!
Whale on that baby! I wonder if it would be worthwhile (and/or legal, depending on your club) to shunt the brushes on the SCX motor, and maybe shim the magnets a bit? I've got a spare one to mess around with... think I might try it (Project #34,567)
Na Bart, that motor just isn't going to run any faster unless you remove wire. I did that long ago. 25 turns a pole and all I got was a little less heat.
Now maybe a RAA legal motor would be a better way to go.
Dan
Where've you been getting the green endbell motors? I bought a bunch from a brit on eBay, but haven't found another source. Believe it or not, those greenies make a great replacement for the lumps that come in Artin chassis...
RaceMaster (dude in the RAA) had a bunch that he bought a while back, probably 2 years ago. I picked up a couple from him, and they're great replacements for a number of things. I'm out, and I don't know what he has left (if any). I know he's looking to buy another lot of motors, so he may be out.
Well, our 'supplier' brought along his 550 last night to race on the Scaley track. He made the change with a motor adapter, and dropped a 29k Slot.It motor into the 550. It totally transformed the car.
I have some motors that I'll be dropping into my SCX cars, and taking the SCX motors out. Do any SCX fans care to trade for about 5 SCX motors?
Well, I broke down and got the 550, and I really like it. It's the smoothest SCX I've ever had. Not blazing fast, but decent enough at 12 volts that I may not change the motor in it. Nice car.
I agree, Kurt, the new SCX chassis is very good and great non mag. You might try a 10T pinion on the stock motor, as the SCX motors have a lot of torque to pull a taller gear.
This is one of my favorite mods for SCX cars, they love more gear. Careful with them Bananas, Kurt, it's starting to look like you've been hanging out with Paul too much?!
Hmm, it's been a while.....the "Paco and the Fruit Market Vendor" vignettes have been percolating in my head for quite some time.... I may need to bust one out of the vault soon.
I don't think any SCI sponsors have these motors. A non sponsor does:
Gene's Slotcarplace: http://www.slotcarplace.com/
I tested one green endbell motor at 20,200 RPM at 12v., no load. Gene lists them as 24 or 25k.

So what was the conclusion, folks? Can the Ferrari be made to run quickly just be regearing it and using the stock motor (after a proper run in period), or is an upgraded power plant essential?
Seems to be it got overshadowed by the (admittedly beautiful) Aston Martin ...
... but as I now have the Maranello in my hot little hands I'm all eager to know what's most likely to work best!
I find that SCX cars run very well with a tooth larger pinion, maybe even two, as they have a lot of torque, non mag of course. And this is on my humble track with 9ft straight. I look forward to hearing your opinon of this car and it's handling on your track.
