Silver Editon Super Tires

I think Nick is really on to something with the Silver Edition tires. For me, on my Fray style T-Jets, they are working as well or better than the sili-foams typically used. Great performance and at half the cost.

I'm also using the larger sized Silver Edition tires on my Viper-Jet. HOCOC races this type of chassis in the NSC class with Gen 6 NASCAR bodies. So far this season out of three class races I have two wins and one podium finish. This is the first time that I've every held the points lead in this class. I'm sold!

There has been a rumor that Super Tires plans to roll out (sorry!) Silver Edition tires for 1/32nd scale. I'm anxious to hear if and when that rumor might become true.

And you could do your old friend a big favor if you could snag me a few pre-production samples to test. (That is, spring on the local competitors without warning.) You can assure Nick I'll provide test results.

The sizes I could use right now would be 20 to 21mm OD, 10mm and 8mm wide. I'll buy wheels to suit.

What is different about the silver series?

The Silver Edition tires are a foamed silicone compound, sort of combining the best attributes of silicone over foam tires with those of slip on silicone tires. On my Banzai BuckTrax, the Fray sized tires work as well or better than the sili-foams on my Fray T-Jets. Handling has been fantastic. Unfortunately, I've been chasing HP all season so no podium finishes. With the larger 200 Series tires, I did secure the HOCOC NSC (National Sportsman Series) season championship. This class runs G-Jet, Viper-Jet, Thunderstorm, and T3-Jet chassis at 12.0 VDC and uses HOST lexan Gen 6 NASCAR bodies. This class is great fun, and I have to credit Super Tires as being part of the magic foo-foo that helped me achieve this championship. One thing to note is that the Silver Edition tires seem to require a "run-in" period so as to achieve full performance. Once "run-in", performance is very consistent.

My HO track is a MaxTrax and is made of Sintra. For me the Silver Edition tires were ready to go right out of the bag. gmcullan has two tracks, one has a melamine (I think) finish and the other has a gloss epoxy finish, so possibly the SE tires need running in on those. I would have liked to try the SE tires on regular sectional plastic track, but I do not have access to one of those. I would expect that the advantage that the SE tires would have VS regular slip-on tires would be greater on a track with a lot of less than perfect joints. My MaxTrax is sectional, but there are only 23 joints and most of those are perfect.
One great thing about slip-on tires is that it is much easier to try different diameters. My own testing with Fray style cars indicates that there can be a sweet spot that works best while using the next smaller or larger diameter will increase your lap times. If the room temperature changes a 10°F change will change your tire diameters by at least two sizes and getting off of the sweet spot that much might cost you as much as a tenth of a second per lap.
On a race day you probably would not have time to change silicone on sponge tires.

Richard, get your facts right before you post about my tracks. Both of my tracks are epoxy painted wood, specifically MDF I do believe.

Is Franktheracer still selling tires?

Under the Specs heading the Pro Series tires have their own section, they are available in two types of urethane, regular silicone and SE versions. The 200 series are in the other HO tire section, there are four sizes in either regular silicone or SE formulations. None of the other tires are available as a SE version.
Frank the Racer is still in business, but he does not stock SE tires, those are only available directly from Super Tires thus far.

So they are HO specific tyres?

At this point in time, I believe that they are HO specific, but I know of several 1/32nd scale racers that are chomping at the bit to try some.

I can confirm that only HO Silver Edition tires are available at this point. Possibly there will be SE 1/32nd scale tires in the future. If you are interested in those you probably should contact Super Tires directly.

There is no minimum quantity for any purchase. Silver Edition H.O. Super Tires are $6.00 per pair. Shipping outside of the USA is a minimum of $15.00. Our Super Tires are shipped in a box because we want to make sure that they aren't damaged in transit. We mail through the United States Postal Service.
