What metadata are you changing that fixes the issue? or is it a simple file extension change?

Apologies for using the same picture again.

dinglebery - When I realised the only images that displayed larger than thumbnails to guests were on picture hosting sites I created an account with PostImage and uploaded some photos and linked to them. Of course they did not display until I remembered you comment about requiring authentication to view the file. Once I unticked "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" the image was visible to all.

I would have thought as you are past 25 posts that you would have an album. I assume linking from an album is where the thumbnails come from.

Well that makes perfect sense Geoff... but what I thought we're trying to figure out is how to get them to show up when This Site has the pictures. We know a 3rd party hosting site will always work, like you demonstrated.
About the Album on this site - which is what I think you mean - do you have one set up? Have you tried linking to a pic in it and try? I guess I could investigate it also...

EDIT: I just checked my Profile and the site is hosting 16 pictures I posted... I couldn't see where to create an Album however...

dinglebery - "Well that makes perfect sense Geoff... but what I thought we're trying to figure out is how to get them to show up when This Site has the pictures."

My goal has always been to have decent sized pictures visible to guests as well as members as is available on other forums using different software to vBulletin. The reasoning behind this is that at any time of the day a review of the users online, guests far outnumber members(as I post this 5 members 412 guests).

dinglebery - "About the Album on this site - which is what I think you mean - do you have one set up? Have you tried linking to a pic in it and try?"

As I have not reached the 25 post limit (as per the forum rules) to create an album I have no idea how it is done but once the album is created the pictures in the post will appear to guests as thumbnails that when clicked show the picture in the album containing the thumbnail. This is a "feature" of vBulletin. Visiting other sites using vBulletin software as a guest I saw the small thumbnails(as appear on this site) that when clicked went to an album and also the filename links that when clicked instead of displaying "Invalid File Specified" as they do here, on other sites a page was displayed with a vBulletin message:
"You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page".
Do you have the "Add Video" and "Add Photos" buttons on your Media Tab as refered to by Wet Coast Racer?

dinglebery - " We know a 3rd party hosting site will always work, like you demonstrated."

Both the pictures in post #15 are hosted on PostImage and as I stated if I do not untick "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" on this forum the image is not displayed only the go nowhere hyperlink. Of course this may be because I have not reached the 25 post level and you may well be correct that a 3rd party hosting site will always show up but this has not been my experience to date.

I had drafted this reply up before having a look at today's posts but

It now appears that the 25 post count to be able to create an album does not exist as chairwriter in his "Hello from a new member in Georgia " post is currently showing a 3 post count and an album. Congratulations to him.

No, not those buttons. He was talking about the buttons on the Media tab in your User Profile.

As you can see I do not have an "Add Photos" button. If he is correct about the 25 posts I am almost there.

EDIT: Still no "Add Photos" button.
