  • AutoArt Mustangs

Anyone planning on buying these. They look really cool. I know the AutoArt has had some mixed reviews for performance, but I like the newer cars. I have an RX-8 and it is one of my fav cars to run.

    Hi Dave

Autoart cars have caught my attention, both the rally and road cars; they look fantastic.

I would be interested to hear your experience with the RX-8, do you run with a magnet or with any tuning?

Unfortunately there aren't many reviews of Autoart, any info or feedback would be good.

The cars I really like the look of the forthcoming Lamborghini Diablo Spider, the Mustang and the earlier Muira. The Citroen Xsara looks awesome, I hope to try one of these cars soon.

Finally it appears the new cars are going to be fitted with drivers!

    Best regards

    Jamie

I would like a Grand Am (race) version of the Mustang in the retro orange T/A livery, the C and D type Jags, the Diablo GTR, and maybe a race version of the RX8. Not into street cars. I have the Suby and Mitsu rallys and they are very nice.

I love the Autoart cars!! Performance wise, each succesive release has been better than the one before it. The cars are getting to be very close to "RTR" cars right out of the box. Hmm... I guess that they should, since that what they are.:rolleyes Oh well they are so beautiful and reasonably priced that I expect to do a little tuning on them. I guess that as long as you know this going in, it is okay. The thing I like is that so far anyways, Autoart seems very willing to keep modifying and changing their designs, usually in a posative way. Their first few offerings were over engineered, and performed very poorly, but at least they are willing to learn from their mistakes and make thier next car better.

I have also found their customer service people to be top notch. They have sent me free replacement parts all the way from Japan without me even asking for them! Heck they even sent me a brand new free of charge car one time, just because I was having a problem with one of their products. Anyway I am behind these guys all the way. I think that they have the engineering and resources behind them to build the best slot cars period one day. I just hope that people continue to support them until they get there one day.

The only thing I changed on my RX-8 is the rear tires. It picked up a little performance, but not much over stock.

Hi Gordo, i agree with you here, Auto Art is doing a fine job breaking into the slot car market. I just bought a Lambo Miura, been working on it. Added 2 spacers to the rear axle, as there ia a lot of side to side play, however, there is no binding issues, like in Fly cars. The rear tires could be a bit more sticky, but the car, as a whole, ran just fine right out of the box!
I too can see the possibility that Auto Art will one day be a major player in the rtr slot car world for home/club cars. And with their 1/24 line, who knows- maybe the commercial track racers will embrace their cars too!
Look at what you get for $35 suggested retail: car runs fast and smooth right out of the box, paint and detail right up there with the best of them, working front and rear lights too! And, when you remove the body, there is a quick diconnect on the lights' wiring harness, and small tabs molded onto the underside of the interior to position the lights wiring, as to keep it from interfering with body to chassis assembly! An enginering job worthy of praise just by itself!!
The proposed line up of 1/32 and 1/24 cars to be released in the future looks good too, lots of new as well as vintage models. So, as you, i will continue to support auto Art's slot car product line.

I took delivery today on one of the AutoArt 2005 Mustangs. The green one. Beautiful car. It ran well out of the box, but without modification, it won't keep up with most RTR's....It comes with standard "steet" tires...this car is screaming for mags....the first thing i did was remove the male and female passengers, and substituted a racer. I painted the fog lamps yellow with the testors yellow paint stick....i think the autoart motor may be fine, but the rear tires definitely needs replacing...any suggestions? thanks.

Bluejag, I think you just committed the first slotcar car jacking! Sorry I can't help with your tire question. I'm sure somebody on this board has an answer for you.
                  Peace,

                  David.

Heh heh, I never thought of it in those terms, but you could be right. They didn't want to leave the car except at the point of a pair of needle nose pliers. I want to convert it into a GT car, and some guy with his girlfriend sitting next to him just wouldn't fit into the track sceam. The rear axle is really tight to the chassis...not much room for wider wheels...finding the right racing rims and tires could be a challenge.

hey bluejag, is this car an inline motor of a side winder?

My past experiance has been that the inline motors are everybit as fast as any other mabutchi powered RTR car. The sidewinder is a different story. All the sidewinders that I got are slow. I blame some of this on the gearing, but still the motor seems to be slower than the ones that they use in their inline cars. Another factor that makes me think this is is a different motor is that the inline motors have a white plastic bell end on them and the sidewinder motors have a black bell on them.

Curious to know which style of drivetrain the Mustangs have.

Yes, front motored with independent front axles (metal pins) and metal bushings. Out of the box they made a chattering noise, a bit of grease quieted them down and allowed the wheels to turn smoothly. The tires are softer than than their previous offerings and I thought they performed quite well. The wheels have a rather narrow center rib and as of yet I have not found a silicone tire that fits quite right. They are lighted and the system has a plug to allow the body to be completely removed for easier mantinence. I would have prefered a driver in racing gear but at least there is a driver this time.
